Fortis
Evening all, I guess the title is pretty self-explanatory, but I would like to get/make a model reaching up to his/her/its head with both hands, and clutching it while screaming. Very much akin to the FW Rogue Psyker model below: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Images/Product/AlternativeFW/large/Rpsyk14.jpg Unfortunately, this great figure wouldnt quite work for what I want to achieve so would most likely need to convert it out of various bits (plus is a bit expensive to simply hack up). Ideally the victim should be of an Imperial nature, preferably Astartes, though im open to suggestions. Also, as alluded to, some open mouthed screaming head is required, although there seem to be quite a few of them about in the IG/SM catalogues. Any suggestions/pointers will be welcome (I couldnt find anything similar to this in the PCA section, so had to ask). Thanks Fortis Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298321-how-can-i-model-someone-clutching-their-head-in-their-hands/ Share on other sites
Durus
I think you'll probably get the best results if you convert the arms into the right position and then sculpt the hands onto the head. Here's a tutorial. Personally I'd just map out the rough shape of the hands with GS and then score in the lines where the fingers are before sculpting the knuckles and sinews on. If you want the fingers spread out you might have to take off a little extra material, but I find that easier to do than putting small bits of GS together like in the linked tutorial. If you are doing SM hand you can just block out the rough shape first, let that dry, sculpt the segmented armor on the fingers, let that dry and then do the back of then hand. Should be rather simple (at least much simpler than hands that don't hold anything or make some kind of gesture), but will require some patience. ElectricPaladin
If you're not up for basically making a model from scratch, you're going to need to bash it. My advice would be to buy this FW guy, dremel out the head, and then replace it. You can then cut the head-arm assembly that you've made free of the body and attach it to a new body. Redemptor Nemiel
There is a crew member that comes with the Empire helblaster volley gun, which has both hands holding his head, to small for astrates, but maybe you could convert it into imperial guard. FuriousFerret
http://megabitzshop.com/index.php?a=152 Maybe SM biker arms could work? You could gently pry back the curved hands a bit to better fit the contours of the head - or just go with the shape as it is. Lucien Eilam
I'd start with the pintle gunner arms from the vehicle accessory sprue. They meet about a head's width apart already, so there's minimal work needed to reposition them, just clip the hands off. For the left hand, an open hand from the Grey Knights Strike Squad or Blood Angels Sanguinary Guard might be close enough to drop straight in. For the right hand, I think you'll have to sculpt it from scratch. There are plenty of left hand bits in the range, but barely a single one for the right. This is my favourite shouty Space Marine head, from the Space Wolves Pack: http://cdn.lightbringers-space-marines.net/wip/IMG_6048.JPG It's easy to shave the mohawk and sideburns, leaving you with a generically bald and screaming Space Marine. There's no referrer check on it. Fortis
Thanks guys. Some really useful insights there. I think I may have some pintle gunners arms about somewhere so will give it a go. The conversion is for something way down the bottom of my list of projects, but may have to be tried out anyway while the ideas are fresh. Plus im getting a bit bored of slowly painting my way through 35+ CSMs right now. Please keep the ideas coming though!
