So I am entering a tournament with wolves....

Originaly I was going to enter with my space marines, but I feel that they do not have the oomph needed (especialy since they are built around seige company, which I am not allowed to take). Then I descoverd that I have just enough models to enter the tournament with my wolves IF I get them all painted on time. And with 3 weeks to do it, I should just make it. With work and all.

So anyway, it is not the best list in the world but I think it has some potential. I mean I would normaly have a secound thunderwolf unit in this many points, but I do not have the cash (especialy with my birthday not long after the tournament) to go and buy 2 boxes needed to do the squad.

Yeah I know the TDA Wolf Guard are a little too expensive, but its all I have (well like I said I would rather use my other grey hunters in a drop pod, but I only have opne drop pod). And Powerlance for TWC I think works great, least it has in playtesting.

I didn't think you were allowed to buy servitors without an Iron Priest.  Did I miss something or am I misinformed?

Yeah, taking 1 Servitor is now a good, cheap, way to get the benefits of Champions of Fenris, if you want to load up on Cavalry or other things instead of wolf guards and termies!

Right then, tommorow is the big day.

Well unfortionatly I did not bring much honour to the sons of russ yesterday. Still, I ranked 15th out of 28, in my first proper tournament. And while I did take pictures, they did not come out so well, but I will do as best I can to describe the events.

Game 1: Necrons. AKA Pilons hurt

This game did not go well from that start. Mainly because he had 2 pilons mounted on a skyshield. My thunderwolves died quickly and my wolf lord got cought by wraiths. My drop pod grey hunters came down and faild to destroy one of his ghost arks and were charged by a different unit of wraiths, but suprisingly, since I had lost anyone, 30 attacks did short work of them in a couple of rounds, but then I was shot to death by just about everything but the pilons, which instead decided to shoot at my terminators that had just dropped in, and couldnt get thier shields to work. My storm wolf enterd the frey and survived, mainly due to not being shot at and I sent the blood claws to help my lord with the wraits and sadly killed them too quickly leaving me to be shot by pilons, which due to me bing bunched up, inflicted heavy casulies, including my lord and preist, before the rest were gunned down by his ghost arks. The lone survivour tried to run for a bunker for some protection, but was an inch out of range and was finished off. nothign happend in turn 6 and turn 7 ended with the death of my servator,

Game 2: Eldar. AKA Hail of bullets.

Well this one started well. He was using jetbike spam, with 2 farseers, a wave serpent with dire avengers, a squad of swooping hawks, crimson hunter (exarch) and a wraitknight. Going first I dropped my pod to take out his hawks, but only killed half of them, my wolves ran up the feild into cover. His wraitnight moved to fight the hunters and blasted him with that 3 shot plasma cannon thing, whiping them out while the hawks jumped up and everything else fired on my thunderwolves, killing all but one of them and taking 2 wounds off my lord. He then chraged with 3 full squads of jetbikes. HE inflicted no wounds (yay T5) and my wolf lord cut through an entire unit while the powerlance guy did anouther wound. The squad with his warlord farseer faild thier test and ran from the board while the remaining one just managed to stay. In my turn My lord charged the other farseer unit while the thunderwolf charged a wave serpent (and only knocked a hullpoint off :( ) My terminators dropped in and took a wound from the knight. My lord killed the farseer and a number of other models and they fled the feild. His turn, the hawks killed my servator his knight charged the termies (And that was pretty much all the two units did for a long while aside from some jetbikes getting charged after a fled for one turn and then getting rejoined by the knight. Must give awards to the champion as he went 4 rounds solo with the knight and the bikes). His wave serpant finished off the lord and the remaining bikes killed my thunderwolf. My storm wolf finaly came in turn 4 got half way up the table (darn long edges) and then got shot down. By then the knight was free and blasted what was inside them. Anouther whipe out.

Game 3: Space wolves AKA FLIM FLAM BRING ON THE BAM!

Well this was interesting. See, if we had both got our ideal lists, the two of us would have had nigh identical lists. He had 2 drop podding gh squads, a wolf guard battle leader with storm sheild and black death on wolf. A wolf preist (and he forgot his fnp) with his blood claws (choosing infantry) in a land raider crusader a lone wolf, and a squad of thunderwolves. He went first, moving his forces up, his dp scattering from the table and going into reserves. I moved my wolves up and dropped my pod behind his land raider, only knocking 2 hp from it and stopping it from shooting (Someones getting replaced, I said out loud, what with thier abismal performance in everything). I faild my charge and ended my turn. He then charged my thunderwolves with his, and his claws. The combat was interesting as I lost all my thunderwolves, but my lord did enough damage that the leadership test wasnt bad, so I remiand in the combat and my thunderwolf champion was locked in combat with his Battle leader. One of his pods came in and gunned down my servator. My Grey hunters must have heard my comment, so they seemed to dodge all the fire from the crusader and then kill it. My storm wolf came in and killed some of his hunters that went after the servator (killing both the plasma gunner AND the melter gunner). My last thinderwolf died and the lord took two wounds, but in return I whiped his thinderwolves and his Leader fled. His turn I was worried that his leader would charge my hunters, but instead he dropped in his other grey hunters to shoot at them, inflicting a few casualties. His leader found a gap in the swarm of blood claws and charged but failed to do anything as did his claws and preist, while I cut down a number and his leader fled again. I dropped my claws and Rune preist off seperatly, using life leach to kill a couple of his hunters near where the servator was and heal my lord and charge my claws into his, whiping the unit along with my lord. My terminators landed near his other gh and killed one with rockets while my hunters killed his pod (Yeah they heard me). The storm wolf killed his pod on my side and all but one of the hunters from it. In his turn he charged his Leader into my lord for anouther round of fighting, inflicting 1 wound (and I did nothign in return) while his hunters shot my termies and killed 1. His lone wolf dropped in, but was gunned down my storm wolf and my terminators charged his hunters and butcherd them for one death in return. Rune preist once more sucked the life from the lone grey hunter for my lord. My Claws charged the leader fight inflicting a coule of wounds and my lord finished him off for a whipe out turn 4.

All in all it was a great day and I wished I had done better. Getting matched up to two tournament finalists didnt help, especialy with my list but for my first tournament, getting half way through really means alot.

Ain't too bad for your first tournament. Gratz.

I agree, the Necron was a bit cheesy with his Skyshield Pylons. Wraiths are also annoying as hell and I have yet to find a reliable way to kill then within 2 turns (1 is too quickly) and the only answer is a Knights or, if he does not roll too well, an undamaged TWC unit charging him.

But how the bloody hell did that Eldar get to the finals? His list is really weak as far as Eldar go and from what I can gather from your report, his play style is also weird Oo

Do not consider that kind of Eldar when building your lists. Consider the other kind. The scumbags that do not care for anything but your ultimate destruction. The anti social bastards that will rather see your dreams crushed to a pulp than compromise their victory. The sociopaths and will rather see you sobbing on the ground and rage quit 40k than become less than first in a tournament. You know, like me :D

...

Moving on.

I also want to mention that your list was not hugely optimzed. In that regard I want to say you have done fairly well against those cheesemongers. Next time you'll rip their heads off ;)
