Metallic Word Bearers.

Tactical marine with vexilla (front)

Here's my attempt of red metallic on a tactical marine. Just quick photos on my phone I'm afraid. Pewter rub & buff dry brushed over the chaos black undercoat, a layer of Carbourg Crimon, two thin layers of Tamiya Clear Red, then a final layer of Carbourg Crimson. Looks like a darkish crimson colour until you get it under the lights, then the rub & buff reflects through the layers of red.

Still painting up my first 20 tacticals and some HQ, but will probably try either Lorgar or Erebus & Kor Phaeron in this colour scheme next. But with my painting speed, don't expect any photos until early next year!

@gizur it must be the pics because he is most definitely red!

Could be the lighting - I found that when I put the first wash of carbourg crimson over the pewter, the models looked very pink in certain lighting. The Tamiya clear red sorted that out. To be perfectly honest, I'm not really convinced about the need for the initial wash, but the final wash wash of the crimson over the clear red made quite a difference.

You can get the Rub & Buff pewter and the Tamiya clear red on Amazon by the way. The clear red is really thick out of the bottle, so needs watering down approx 2:1 with water. You could probably also use that the new Citadel blood technical paint instead of the clear red, though I think it's a little darker - I used it for the blood on the bolter chainblade attachment.

Can't lay any claims to this scheme, since it came directly from Forge World. If you look at some of the tactical support squad weapons on the Forge World website (Volkite Caliver & Rotor Cannons), you'll see some of their red metallic Word Bearers. Only difference is that they recommend air-brushing on the crimson & clear red layers and I just brushed them on normally - not convinced about my airbrushing skills yet.

Ive finally recieved my first word bearers and Im currently testing the crimson "traitors red" scheme and the pre-heresy slate scheme (as seen on the terminator). I will post a picture of the slate grey marine WIP tomorrow if I have the time. Im actually enjoying that scheme, but it might be a bit of a :cuss on dreads and vehicles.

So, brothers and sisters, I think I finally made the slate grey the way I want it. I present to you, the Word Bearers, post-monarchia:

Now he doesnt have any arms yet and is still WIP, but I prefer to paint the torso/legs/head/backpack before adding arms and pauldrons. Im thinking of painting the pauldrons red with a bronze trim for my own chapter, that way it ties in with the name of the chapter "The Bleeding Hand", with a character Im writting and with the whole post-monarchia thing.

Its worth mentioning he looks darker in person, its the light from the lamp thats making him shine like that.

Hmmm, even though it looks good there is something about this scheme that keeps biting me in the back of my head. There is something I dont like but Im not sure what.

Im testing a crimson scheme because I havent fully decided yet. Maybe I should try a matte non-metallic grey like the HH artwork shows?

I can always drown them in some Fairy power spray for a couple of hours and scrub the paint off :D (Man, that stuff is amazing).
