GreyCrow
Greetings brothers ! Now we all know what Multi-Melta attack bikes are for, obviously... But I'm going to play them at a tournament over the course of the month, starting on wednesday, and I've actually never played those. The idea here is to discuss how they are played on the battlefield, how to maximize their survivability and effectiveness, the best areas to move them around and the paths to take ! Going for Cover or Jink or going straight towards the target and let them die. How to have them draw fire, and draw fire away from them ? Overall, how do you run your Attack Bikes with Multi-Melta ! Disciple of Caliban Sgt
Well I'd say it depends on if you use DA or WS or not. That scout move is amazing for allowing the AB to get to a target and smoke it. Also Outflank is nice because it will make your opponent think twice.....or three times about placing armor near the edge of the board. GreyCrow
I am not unfortunately, I'm using Raven Guard Chapter Tactics, so the Attack Bikes virtually gain no benefit at all ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298674-multi-melta-attack-bikes-tactics/#findComment-3848777 Share on other sites
Disciple of Caliban Sgt
Well then it seems very situational to me. If you get first turn see where your opponent sets up their armor. If you can't get a good chance of a shot with your move then I would say keep them behind terrain until they move into position then race up and melta it to death. Altasmurf
Keep hidden and even then unless it's a tank that needs to be stopped instantly keep fire lanes on the limited and plink away at tanks. Even at 24" range a melta is a str 8 gun with +2 on the damage chart so you don't always need to suicide the target. GreyCrow
Okay, so the general consensus there is to keep them hidden unless I really want a tank destroyed then I move them up the board. Thanks guys ! I plan to run them as a "Devastator" combat squad with a Typhoon Landspeeder (in my fluff Devastators are mounted rather than Assault Marines to keep with up with the highly mobile force), so I can pump even more strength 8 shots and have some defensive capabilities against infantry models too. I've learned that my first opponent from the tournament is going to be Tyranids, so that's going to be a good practice game to keep them mobile and at the 24" mark. I won't need to get close to get the full effect because Monstruous Creatures don't care much about the Melta rule, hehe ! I'll be using them as an harassment tool, and hopefully he'll bring some warriors so I can instagib them, hehe. Disciple of Caliban Sgt
Snipers and Meltas on the big bugs. And don't forget the plasma and flamers! SyNidus
If you're facing armour, remember that part of their awesomeness is the ability to tank many wounds. I'd personally just drive them up one flank as a suicide squad. If the opponent shoots at them, they'll need to dedicate relatively substantial firepower to clear them off, and if they don't (and they won't), then they've got the MM to deal with. Your plan with Nids is a good one though. ElectricPaladin
I'm looking forward to doing three multi-melta attack bikes with a sanguinary priest. 3+ armor, T 5, two wounds each, and FNP 5+? Awesome! And they have three twin-linked bolters and three multi-meltas? That's pretty cool altogether. Very mobile, decent offensive output, and very hard to kill off. I actual think they'd make a pretty good bodyguard for a blood angels biker HQ of some kind. Probably a librarian - the sort I want to be zipping around using powers - rather than a more face-crushing kind of HQ like a captain or reclusiarch, who I want to ride with a bodyguard that can keep up in terms of smashing things. Jolemai
Always remember you can throw a Krak Grenade in lieu of firing that Twin-linked Bolter.
