Sviar
Our club has turned their attention to 30K(going to start with a 400p Kill Team game). I signed up because I was interested in what has been described as an balanced warfare, rule wise. I been in this hobby for a long long time, so the 30K is a breath of fresh air for me. But I have no kowledge when it comes to 30K, so I was wondering if someone could help me out, I really would appreciate it. I have a few questins: Is there an equivalent to the BA "Codex"(I choose Blood Angels as my army) and are there a Rulebook? I found two books called Crusade army list and Isstvan campaign. During the defense of terra what MK armour would BA use? Did they get the MK VI shortly after the Raven Guard did? Sadly the BA Legion don't have their heresy era rules yet, so not yet. The rules in their most concentrated form are in the books you mentioned, the generic units found in all the Legions' rules can be found in the Crusade Army list as well as rules for running a legion that has not had its special rules released yet. The special rules for released Legions and their specific units can be found in the Istvaan Campaign Legions book. Alternatively you can by all the big HH £70 books, which come with the fluff and rules for the legions and the HH era. Can't answer the last two, but Lexicanum will probably be able to tell you. Good Luck! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298681-a-new-begining-getting-started/#findComment-3848872 Share on other sites
Marshal Loss
1. Use the Crusade Legions army book, that will give you a basic army list. Then you're allowed to add the basic Legiones Astartes rule and add either Stubborn or Furious Charge (likely Furious Charge in any depiction of Blood Angels). You'll probably be waiting a while for the 9th Legion to be covered though. 2. Whatever they could get their hands on. I've always thought of them as the sort of Legion that would use Mark IV (a 'pretty' armour) but by Terra there would have been horrific supply demands and a lot of Mark V brought into use. 3. Nobody really knows. I suspect as the Heresy goes on we'll see the Mark VI be used more. depthcharge12
Get only the first crusade book with all the legion rules because I believe the second only has the special legion rules. I'd highly recommend using what is called a rite of war (RoW). These are special buffs and limitations that create fluffy armies. The one that sticks out the most for the Blood Angels is the Angel's wrath RoW. This means you can only take units with either jump infantry, jetbike, skimmer, or flyer sub category. In exchange for this, all models with a jump pack all gain hit and run :D This will also help you reach a desirable point level without breaking the bank as the basic 10 man assault squad costs 250 points. This may seem ridicules at first but you can upgrade the size up to 20 MARINES!!! Also, you can take artificer armor on the sergeant and power weapons for every 5 guys in the squad. Jetbikes are seemingly fluffy for BAngels too. You can't go wrong with mobile firepower that has a 2+ save, T5, and a heavy bolter - which can be upgraded for various other weapons. Now you want to build a list with 2000 points in mind, unfortunately, 1500 points is like 1000 points for 30k and it's hard to fit in things at all. 400 is impossible because 2 basic 10 man tactical squads cost 300 points, and a leader would cost at cheapest 50 points for bare bones. If I were to run a blood angel list (oooh it's tempting) I'd go: RoW Angels Wrath Legion rule - Furious charge HQ Praetor - +paragon blade, digi lasers, iron halo, jump pack Command squad - 5 guys + 4 power weapons, 1 power fist, 5 combat shields, jump packs Primus Medicae - (captain sized apothecary - good for Sang Priest - goes with command squad) +jump pack, charnabal sabre, combat shield, artificer armor Troops 20 Assault marines + 4 power weapons, sarge with power axe/melta bombs/artificer armor 20 Assault marines + 4 power weapons, sarge with power axe/melta bombs/artificer armor Fast Attack 6 Jetbikes + 2 plasma cannons, 6 melta bombs Javelin land speeder +Twin linked lascannon, 2 hunter killer missiles Javelin land speeder +Twin linked lascannon, 2 hunter killer missiles Heavy Support Fire raptor gunship +Autocannon side sponsons This list is small but hits fast and hits hard, make use of cover when possible. ...And markIV jump troops look especially sexy in blood red ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298681-a-new-begining-getting-started/#findComment-3848937 Share on other sites
Brother-Chaplain Kage
Welcome to Warhammer 30k and The Age of Darkness forum! http://i.imgur.com/ZA0UxEe.jpg?1 Please feel free to ask any and all questions you might have about the greatest era in the 40k setting. Although you already seem to have chosen your Legion, I would still suggest having a look at the pinned thread in the top of the forum, The Legion For You. It has a lot of good suggestions about breaking out of the restrictive thinking of the 40k era, but the most important thing to keep in mind is that just about everything will be fluffy for you Legion of choice. Some of the Legions numbered in the hundreds of thousands and were spread across the galaxy in innumerable battles ranging in size from a few squads to world-shattering assaults by hundreds of Companies, using every weapon the Legions could bring to bear. Which includes PRIMARCHS! http://i.imgur.com/5xLzpbx.jpg?1 (That's Bobby Guilliman punching the head off of a Word Bearer while in low orbit over Calth for calling him "Robot". Well, that's how Erebus tells it, anyway. But seriously, don't call him Robot. He doesn't like it, however fitting it might be.) Each Legion was an army unto itself, so the Blood Angels of the Great Crusade and Heresy were not merely jump pack assault specialists, and you shouldn't feel the need to conform to those tired 40k cliches. Break the mold and have fun with your new army. To add on to the answers already provided for you questions: 1) About the rule book. Depthcharge was correct in that you will want to get this guy: http://i.imgur.com/otLZrld.jpg?1 This is the equivalent of your standard Marine Codex for 40k with all of the generic unit entries that everyone has access to. The other 'Red Book', the Isstvan Campaign Legions, is the special units and rules unique to the individual Legions, which, sadly, does not yet include the IX Legion(Blood Angels). 2) Concerning the armor, by the time of the Siege of Terra, there would be a lot of MK IV and V with some bits and pieces of MK II and III that hadn't worn out yet, or had managed to be repaired, but don't fret too much if you want to include 40k models into the mix, as a whole new army of resin is understandably expensive. I'm one of the mods here, along with Flint13 and 1000Heathens. Climb aboard and strap in, because the Heresy train ain't got no brakes! Grotsmasha
In regards to armour marks, the Fists secured mkVII from Mars and I be very surprised if both The Scars and Blood Angels didn't end up with some at The Siege of Terra. Leif Bearclaw
About the armour mark. The FW Badab books have pieces dealing with most of the marks of power armour. Mk VI is specxifically stated to be iconically linked with the defence of the Imperial Palace, so I'd expect the Fists, Angels and Scars to all have substantial amounts of it, probably even the majority of thier serviceable armour. So while it hasn't been elaborated yet about when exactly they got it, the IX had plentiful Mk VI by Terra. In regards to armour marks, the Fists secured mkVII from Mars and I be very surprised if both The Scars and Blood Angels didn't end up with some at The Siege of Terra. Cheers, Jono I thought it was Mk VI the Fists recovered. As Mk VI was barely out of prototyping, why would Mars have massive stockpiles of the next armour Mark? Slips
They only got Roughly a Thousand or so Suits of Mk VII from Mars. On a Legion Scale, that's not a lot. Also, different Forgeworlds produced different things. Maybe Mk VI Corvus had been offloaded to other Forgeworlds (such as Deliverance for production for the Raven Guard) to permit Mars to hop on to the next stage of Development. I'd also wager that Mk III, IV, V and VII were more iconic at the siege of Terra rather than Mk VI since most legions didn't like it due to it having lesser defensive capabilities compared to other Marks. Also, due to Mk VI also being in limited Production and having near exclusive use with the Raven Guard (or Alpha Legion if you consider that they count), I doubt much loyalists at Terra would have Mk VI en masse. Especially compared to Mk III, IV and V. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298681-a-new-begining-getting-started/#findComment-3851329 Share on other sites
