rockystarr
I know there are a couple of threads related to airbrushes. I'm thinking about getting an airbrush kit and saw this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370268372610?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Any good? or avoid like the plague? Machinepriest
Those look like some very generic airbrushes. There's rarely anything catastrophically wrong with cheap airbrushes, they work, but the build quality often leave a lot to be desired.I wouldn't go for one. You can get a quality airbrush from brands like Iwata and Badger without breaking the bank.As for the compressor, if I were you I wouldn't go cheap here either and find one with an air tank. The one in the link has none, which means it would work constantly which gets annoying real fast. How much are you willing to spend? Firepower
I don't recognize the brand name, so I'd think twice. I started with a Master (Chinese Iwata rip off) brand airbrush, and the thing was an utter disaster. The one good thing I took away from it was the ability to strip down a broken airbrush in 2 minutes flat For a cheap airbrush starter, I strongly recommend the Iwata Neo. It's just $50, and a very solid workhorse sort of airbrush. Good for basecoating, and pretty good for fine detail as well- not super fine, but you can easily do zenithal highlights. I painted my Broken Arrows with it, and had very little trouble with the airbrush itself. But remember, you'll have to go through the learning curve of mixing paint, finding/fixing clogs, and cleaning the airbrush no matter what you choose. Edit- as for a compressor, yeah, get one with an air tank. You can get them for fairly cheap, like $100-150 if memory serves. Volfen
I would echo the above. Both Badger and Iwata make fine entry-level airbrushes and an inexpensive compressor can be had at a local hardware store for fairly cheap. I would recommend a dual - action model to get used to the controls. A water trap and filter will help also. If you get the air compressor and attachments at a hardware store you will pay about 2/3 of the price you'd see in a dedicated hobby / airbrush store. Whatever you decide, research basic airbrush operation and cleaning before you buy. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298707-1st-airbrush/#findComment-3849769 Share on other sites
