Wargasm40k
Here is my write up for my home grown Astartes chapter, the Reapers. Feel free to be burtally honest, or honestly brutal. Origins “The enemies of Man in the Hades sector no longer fear death, so we shall send Death to remind them of why they should be afraid” Created during the 8th founding, The Reapers were sent to guard the Hades sector on the border of Segmentums Obscurus and Ultima. Imperial forces in the Hades sector had been ground down after centuries of fighting rebellions, pirates, and ork incursions that threatened a Mechanicus forge world and other key Imperial worlds in the sector. The High Lords of Terra felt that a permanent Adeptus Astartes presence in the sector was needed and began steps for the founding of the Reapers. Given the war torn state of the sector, recruiting battle hardened youths was not difficult and the Reapers were able to grow their ranks surprisingly fast and begin combat operations. Seventy Five years after their founding the Reapers were considered to be at operational strength and within one hundred and fifty years they had crushed the rebellions, ran down the pirates, and got the ork threat under reasonable control. The Hades sector was finally able to take a breath and begin rebuilding. To this day the Reapers maintain their vigilance over the sector and lend their aid to neighboring regions in the Obscurus and Ultima Segmentums. Homeworld “As Angels of Death we require a World of Death. A world so brutal and violent that only the most worthy warriors will survive to reach our door” The first Chapter Master Name: Dis Type: Death World Fortress Monastery: Underworld Located in the Stygian system, Dis is a large Terra sized moon in a tidally locked orbit around a gas giant, the fourth planet in the system. Dis is classified as a Death World, it’s surface is covered in dense jungles, swamps, and barren wastelands. All inhabited by carnivorous plants, giant reptiles, feral orks, and a host of other vicious creatures both native or imported by the Astartes from other worlds around the Hades Sector. The Reapers fortress monastery, called Underworld, is located in a blasted wasteland. On the outside it appears to be a large walled fortress bristling with guns, cannons, and lasers, and ground to space defenses, surrounded by a moat of corrosive waste pumped up from the Reapers’ forges, deep below the surface where the vast majority of their monastery is actually located. Combat Doctrine Given their array of enemies they had to deal with in the early years of their chapter, Eldar and their dark kin, orks, pirates, rebel and chaos armies, the Reapers learned to be flexible in combat in order to respond to ever changing conditions during war. The use of assault squads with support fire from tactical and devastator squads while scouts infiltrate behind enemy lines for sabotage or assassination is common practice for the Reapers. . . Organization Recruitment: Once every two Terran years Dis moves into the shadow of its parent planet for five Terran days. Prisons in the Stygian system are emptied and gangers from the hive cities are brought to Dis when this begins and unloaded at staging camps on the surface. Once darkness fully engulfs the moon the aspirants have until ‘The Dawn of the Long Night’ to make it through the hell that is Dis in order to reach Underworld. Those aspirants who make it are then screened both physically and mentally by the senior apothecaries and librarians of the chapter. The worthy then become scouts and start their path on becoming Space Marines. Those that fail the screening become chapter serfs or are sent to the Mecanicus forge world to become servitors. Chapter Organization: The Reapers are not a codex compliant chapter. They respect the codex for its tactical knowledge and guidelines but that is about it. At full strength the Reapers number around twelve hundred. Ten battle companies and one scout company. The battle companies are made up of around one hundred Astartes broken up into four assault squads, four tactical squads, two devastator squads, and a command squad. The scout company usually has a standing number of around one hundred and fifty scouts at any given time, broken down into squads of ten. Scout squads are attached to battle companies as needed. Normally there are at least one or two battle companies on world at any time. While on world squads from the battle and scout companies keep their skills sharp by conducting training operations out in the wilds to thin out the feral ork population or eliminate any orks that are becoming too powerful in order to keep them in check. Beliefs “Space marines are a welcome sight on any battlefield sure enough, but I will die a happy man if I never have to fight next to those grim bastards ever again.” Overheard from an Imperial Guardsman after putting down rebel forces. The space marines are the Emperor’s Angels of Death and none take this title more seriously than the Reapers. Cloaked in robes of black and wielding lethal power scythes, the skull helmed chaplains lead the Reapers in prayer before every campaign. The Reapers see themselves as instruments of punishment and when the Reapers descend on a world to make war upon the enemies of the Emperor, they leave no survivors. They believe that their duty never ends, even after death. When the Emperor finally rises from the Golden Throne he will choose their greatest warriors from among the ranks of the dead to aide him in the final battle against Chaos. For this reason the Reapers always retrieve their dead when possible for interment in the Crypt deep beneath their monastery. Gene-seed Records on the chapter’s geneseed were lost in the early days of their history. All organs remain functional leading most to believe that they are descended from Ultramarine stock, however one single mutation has appeared. During the process of becoming a Reaper the scouts lose all color to their skin, becoming pale white and later in the transformation all body hair is lost. They also develop black and seemingly pupiless eyes, resulting in the Reapers faces having an almost skull like appearance. Battle-cry The Reapers need no cry of battle. They let the roar of their guns and the screams of the dying announce their presence.
