Black Library Weekender

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'll be there Saturday & Sunday, and like during The Horus Heresy Weekender in May I'll do a Live Tweet with pics, news, Q&A with authors.

So if you want to "live the weekender at home", just keep an eye here:

And if you have a question for an author or in general, you'll can tell me on Twitter and I'll do my best to ask to an author for you. Or if you want a pic in particular, or news about pre-release books, etc.

I'll be there for myself, for my website and for all the community. So, do not hesitate to contact me.

I hope you'll enjoy the LiveTweet and the Weekender.

See you there if you go. msn-wink.gif

I'm making the long drive up tomorrow with a nice detour to Warhammer World (November Special Burger at Bugmann's looks mighty fine) shall be there for the Friday/Saturday/Sunday. Kravin, be at the bar for a drink and we can make plans on how to leave a queue of people the length of the hotel for ADB's signing sessions again.....

It sounds like the live tweeting is covered which I don't do so that's good. I shall instead enjoy a weekend largely incommunicado and then post an epic write up next week.

Balthamal - that sounds like a plan. I'm staying a friend a couple miles away rather than at The Belfry but I'll be around and I'll try to arrange something via PM on here.

If anyone of you have talked to Graham McNeill, can you guys confirm that Guilliman will be back in 40k esp I think the new Ultramarines series.

Where did you hear that? I really don't think they would ever put a primarch(non daemon-primarch anyways) back in 40k, but GW has been doing some pretty unpredictable things lately.

From day one BL Weekender 2014 via blacklibrarium twitter

Shield of Baal: Deathstorm by Joshua Reynolds
The Seventh Serpent by Graham McNeill- HH LE - Featuring Shattered Legions against Alpha Legion
Hunt for Magnus by Chris Wraight- Space Marines Battle novella
Dan Abnett will be doing Lion in Imperium Secundus
Angels of Caliban by Gav Thorpe - HH novel featuring Corswain and Luther
Sword of Calth wont be written after Crimson King, got replaced by Battle for Macragge, a new SMB book
The Herald of Sanguinius audio drama featuring origins of Sanguinor in Imperium Secundus

Ahriman : Unchanged, final and third book.

I can't adequately express how much I loathe names like "Deathfire".

So much of the old lore has been left by the wayside in the name of common sense, taste, better ideas, etc.  Somehow, the sometimes painful naming conventions from the 1990s and early '00s has survived, though.

That having been said...

  1. More Lion El'Jonson* by Abnett?  Yes please.
  2. Alpha Legion versus Shattered Legions?  It could be interesting, but it's tough for me to imagine a scenario wherein a Coalition of Legionaries Who Don't Like Each OtherTM are able to compete with a cohesive legion whose calling card is teamwork.
  3. Angels of Caliban... All I can say is that Gav Thorpe hit most of the right notes with Master of Sanctity, but the audio dramas he's done for the Caliban plot thus far have not impressed me.
  4. Who is doing Battle for Macragge?  I'll reserve my excitement upon confirmation of the author.
  5. Hunt for Magnus could be interesting.  Based on the title, am I to assume this is a White Scars title?  Is it set during the Heresy, or afterwards?
  6. I'm not that jazzed about Sanguinor.
  7. As you may have guessed already, I'm not that jazzed about titles that include terms/titles/names like "deathstorm".

* I'll commit Dark Angels Heresy with a capital "h" by calling for that surname to be erased by the annals of Warhammer 40k, as well.

To say I'm wrecked is a the grossest of understatments but I'll post the couple of snippets I picked up throughout:

Gulliman isn't to miraculously reappear. Like ANY of the loyalist Primarchs.

The Ahriman trilogy is shaping up to be outstanding, got Sorcerer to read but John French's Q&A on the subject hinted at grade A stuff occuring both within the book and within Unchanged. That should be out at some point next year.

The Dark Angels are getting a ton of love from Gav Thorpe in the shape of the Caliban series conclusion and also the reintroduction of Corswain leading the bulk of the I Legion out in the galaxy during the Heresy. He read a small snippet of the final book and it's VERY promising.

Graham is doing BoM, the next Ventris trilogy has been benched so he can do it because otherwise it'll never get done, mainly due to The Crimson King (sequel to A Thousand Sons) ADB also had a lot of interesting concepts on the whole event so I think I'd actually buy it.

The Emperor's Children were spoken about at length and I'm very happy with the direction they're going to be aimed at in the near future, less torture more menace is the best way to sum them up.

Hunt for Magnus is the prequel to Battle of the Fang and basically lays out just why the Wolves were so ready to go out all guns blazing for Magnus' head. Whisper it quietly but the Wolf Brothers will be mentioned throughout.

I hope you're right about the Dark Angels.

I can't say I'm excited about Battle of Macragge; I'd much rather read The Crimson King.  I like Wraight's work, but I'm not that thrilled about a prequel that (based on the abbreviated description, above) spells out the obvious.

I'm also not that excited to hear about novellas versus novels, and that goes double for limited edition ones.  It's dubious enough that novellas are comparable in cost to novels, despite having a significantly smaller page count.

limited edition novellas is a swear word in my book.
