Ghost Knights and Mordrak

Saul Invictus

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I've recently started my Grey Knights attachment back up, and I'm going to be basing them around the Second Brotherhood, led by Mordrak. As a homage to his old rules, I'm painting his Paladin retinue up as Ghost Knights, and I was looking around for some C&C on making them more ghostly, if anyone has any examples, etc.

I build my collection on a snowy base, and I'm toying with scorched earth around the feet of the ghosts, and I plan on building Mordrak with more ghosts appearing around him.

The guy on the left was test #1, I prefer #2, on the right.

All C&C appreciated

Have you thought about flipping the highlights? As in, "shading" the cracks with a lighter color? I've always liked that effect, and you could use Nihilakh Oxide to do it very easily. Maybe paint a mid-dark, shade with Oxide for a lighter color, and drybrush a darker green on the outside? I've seen some fantasy ghosts done that way and they looked cool.

The Ghost Knight on the right definitely looks better, if only because it puts me in mind of the old Hanna-Barbera Scooby Doo ghosts! You may find that insulting but I assure you it's intended as a compliment.

On the painting front it seems you've very little to worry about; your Ghost Knight looks great and Mordrak seems to be coming along nicely too. I'm personally looking forward to seeing more of this project.
