Kurgan the Lurker
Saw this on the Victoria Miniatures FB feed this morning: http://elite40k.blogspot.com.au/2014/11/tutorial-building-better-guardsman.html Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298932-elite-40000-tutorial-building-a-better-guardsman/ Share on other sites
WarriorFish
Better is of course a relative term, but it looks a pretty good mix of GW and Victoria parts. Kierdale
A nice combination but I wouldn't want to go to such lengths for a platoon! Disregarding science for a moment, do 40k lasguns have recoil? If so he might need a stock... WarriorFish
Shh, no science. Only grim dark. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298932-elite-40000-tutorial-building-a-better-guardsman/#findComment-3854832 Share on other sites
Lord Commander Scrymgeour
i don't think light has recoil.... It has force but no mass Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298932-elite-40000-tutorial-building-a-better-guardsman/#findComment-3854834 Share on other sites
Vash
Looks good but the way would have done it. The shoulder pads is something i would have changed first, and then the head/helmet. But a good link and turtorial to show that with some creativity you make unique guardsmen of your own. *the stock of the lasgun is for stability when aiming down the sight. Kilofix
Yeah - stocks: Three point contact provides more stability. Anchored fulcrum provides more accuracy. Also, a handy to keep your cleaning kit, use as a walking stick or bash someone on the head with. Stick with metal and not plastic or wire. And yes, Lasguns need cleaning too. FenrisWolf
i don't think light has recoil.... It has force but no mass Sorry, going to step in with a bit of physics: light has momentum (look up Poynting vectors, etc), and so therefore it would have recoil. How much would depend on energy delivered by the laser beam. I did a quick calculation assuming a 5 megajoule laser (some 50 times the energy of the SUV size thing the AirForce wants to install in an HC130) and a 1 kg (2.2 lb) rifle. If so, it would have a recoil of 1.6 cm/s (half an inch per second). Not zero, but not much. Now to adapt this for various scifi weapons for use in my physics classes. See if any of my students like it. Kierdale
Thanks for the stability issue explanation. Very interesting. Let's not go into physics. Had quite enough of that in uni'. Back on-topic, the model shows well what can be put together from multiple sources. elmo
They look good but I don't think I would go for sourcing bits from different suppliers. It is an expensive way of building troops. Now complete VM miniatures, that's another thing ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298932-elite-40000-tutorial-building-a-better-guardsman/#findComment-3855816 Share on other sites
