Southwood181
So i have just started playin WArhammer (woop goodbye social life) and i decided i liked the idea of Space Wolves because lets be honest a giant dude riding a even bigger wolf is pretty awesome hence my decision. Now because im a total rookie i bought some boxes and built some stuff without looking at points and/or whats allowed and tactics and am now seeking advice on where i should go from here. Im not even sure on points so im just going to post what i have and hope someone can help me.10 Wolf Guard - 3 with plasma rifles, 2 with storm bolters and chain swords, 1 Thunderhammer and storm shield, 1 frost axe, 1 with 2 wolf claws, 1 with power sword and bolt pistol and 1 with Thunderhammer and bolt pistol10 Grey hunters - 9 with bolt guns and chainswords, 1 with power fist and plasma pistol3 Thunderwolf Calvary - 1 with Thunderhammer and Storm shield, 1 with Frost axe and Storm shield, 1 with Power fist and bolt gun1 Razorback/Rhino aparently the kit can be both so undecided on which to take. I have some money to spend and recently ordered Arjac Rockfist and Njal Stormcalled (simply out of impulse because they look and sound cool) but where shall i go next. instead of buying what looks cool i want to start getting competitive. Have played my friend who has Tau and i have won all four games so far (2 objectives and 2 shoot em ups)Cheers Guys! Frater Cornelius
What do you mean 'good bye social life'? Table top is actually one of the most social hobbies around. You play with other real people in front of you which you can even slap when :cusss hits the fan. Much better than online gaming :P As for SW... Go nuts man. Get whatever looks good and gather ideas. You are a new player, so it won't matter. Get whatever looks cool, chat with othet people. You style will develop in time. Giving you specialized advice now is pointless seeing as you might not like the idea in the future. You are a blank slate right, don't let anyone fill it for you. Go and fill it yourself. That's as far as I got. The rest is min/max advice which I won't scare you with just yet... well, one advice I will give you. Do not go overboard with equipment. WG get real expensive real fast, TWC as well. Load up the GH with special ranged weapons (2 of the same is best) and keep WG either with combi-weapons or with a melee build (on bikes or in transport). 1-2 weapons are usually enough. I actually run my TWC completely naked. Also can someone (or Valerian, to be more precise) move that in the main section? It ain't an army list topic and it won't get any hits here. FenrisWolf
You've actually got a good starting set of models to let you try out a lot of things. My advice would be to build things bare bones, not even adding weapons, etc. Play games proxy so you can get a feel of what you want - magnetize where you can. There's lots of tutorials. Enjoy and take Immy's advice to heart. Find your play style, then fill in models to match it. Me, I'm going to do a lot of different things, just because I like variety. I'm starting with TWC focussed list and adding Armoured Battle Group ally just because I like tanks and they're named after our Primarch! Plus plasma cannons that still don't get hot! Kabbala
I can't comment on the SW, but here's my advice for every new player. Start small: plan on building/playing smaller games and slowly working up to larger games. This gives you an idea of how you play but also how your army plays. I've seen too many think they need to start with 1500+ points only to realize they do not like how the army plays, and then they've wasted time and money. Oh and go online for the community, support, and inspiration; not to copy paste the newest net list. My $0.02 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298954-just-started-warhammer-advice-needed/#findComment-3855554 Share on other sites

Granted, I play this game for a while and I know what I need and I could buy all 2k points right away and have an optimized tournament army, bjt I started with very manageable 1k points. Less work and you do not get demotivated. This is important to me because I like to do conversions and buying all at once would give me way too many models for one go. benane
As I am totally new to WH as well the advice with not buying to kuch at once is gold. I just buy 1-2 boxes, assemble and paint them and only them get the next one. It is really easy to get overwhelmed. Since I have not layed a single game yet I'm just studying the rules and reading fluff in between. It takes ages until my models are as nice as I want them to be, but at the prices of the models i don't want to waste too many models. Not really kuch advice there, but I hopemit helps anyways ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298954-just-started-warhammer-advice-needed/#findComment-3856158 Share on other sites

The reason why I can take my merry time with Eldar is because one of the dudes working at our FLGS allows me to use his Eldar. So I build mine while I practice with his army. Find a balance. Buy 750 points, then move up to 1500. Southwood181
Cheers for the responses guys i will take all of it on board. I went and got some fenrisian wolves and Harald Deathwolf and he gives bonuses to my TWC and FW with the outflank rule which i think is cool. Also got my Njal and Arjac that i ordered so im going to build and paint and play games and see how things go. I started working the points out and am pretty much at 1500 with my new additions haha Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298954-just-started-warhammer-advice-needed/#findComment-3856250 Share on other sites
Hear da Lamentation
My advice would be to be careful with the "extras" ... The special weapons n stuff Make sure you have the right units to suit your play style first .. then look at how you can maximise their effectiveness with the specials. It is very easy to overspend on the goodies. tylerw
I recommend avoiding purchasing any more HQ/ICs (such as Njal) until you've proxied them and tried them in games. If you're just buying them to build/paint, no worries, but two HQs is basically the dollar-amount of a Razorback/Rhino, or most of the cost of a lot of bigger items. Support your local store, but also check ebay for things. Your local store's price on stuff like TWC/Centurions/new things won't be much worse than Ebay's, while stuff like Troops, Terminators, Rhinos, HQs (in general, not every single one) are available at reduced prices on ebay. I like to buy my paints/supplies locally as well since the markup on them isn't so brutal. Donkalleone
Only buy HQ when you really really like the Modell and on other HQ: just build them yourself. I love Arjac´both Modell and The Rulez so i bought him. Maybe Later Njal cause the Modell is Awesome. Southwood181
Yeah i really liked the look and model of njal and arjac hence me purchasing them. i tried ajac in a 2 vs 2 game (1000 points between the teams so 500 each way) and personally i think he is awesome. Harald Deathwolf was the only one i bought because of his rules/bonuses etc... to the TWC and FW. again i used him in the same game and he was also awesome. If you were to make a 1000 point list out of what i have got what would you go with? What would you add/ take away. As most people say its about what i like and how i want to play. i would definately want Arjac in there along with Harald deathwolf with TWC/FW. The two hqs on there own add up to 305, 10 FW is 80 points. So im nearly at 400 (500 with my TWC) what would you guys do with the other 500 points?
