Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
I thought I would start a thread to use as a discussion platform and also an informative resource for those of us who could use a little tactical assistance (me) ((and not just me)). I thought it could be very worthwhile to have this specific tactica in one place, or added to an existing thread, if I have missed it. Val work your magic, if so. I want to know about placement of models. Where do I put my characters, my invulnerable save models, my power house hitters, etc. For each pack in the codex there has to be a 'best' formation if looking at it with no upgrades and also with the pack maximized to it's fullest potential, right?? So now I leave it up to you, my brothers. Enlighten us with as much tactical knowledge as you can!! Frater Cornelius
One trick I like to do is to put IP, Fenrisian Wolves and TWC all solo when I am not going first. That only works with Harald. The thing is, when too many Cyber Wolves or Fenrisian Wolves die and you fail your morale check, your TWC or Harald will run away, from the board. By abusing Harald's Ld10 bubble you can have them all take casualties, without fear that important bits run of the field. NightHowler
One of the great things about TWC is the size of their bases. You can mitigate a lot of damage from blasts directed at the cavalry just by making sure that they're always 2" apart and in a line. If there are models in the pack that I don't want tanking hits, I'll bend that line back a little on their end, but no more than about 20-30 degrees. By doing this, even large blasts never hit more than 2 models, and if it scatters, usually just one. Sohail187
Model placement for me boils down to what spells i get. I normally run 2 rune priest on bikes and depending on what spells they get will decide which priests goes with my TWC lord and where he sits in that unit. Life Leach: If i have life leach, wolf lord would defo be at the front of the pack soaking up the mass dice rolls on a 2+ until he loses a wound or 2. Anything i don't think he can handle LOS. Following turn life leach to hopefully give a wound back or 2, in some situation I have had both rune priest with life leach returning a unit to full wounds. Fenrisian Wolves: I've seen loads of wolf players take 2 of these with there lord and just stick them at the front and they die to the first 2 shots. I personally think they should be behind your warlord and before your TWC. So any silly shots ap2 or str 10 ect..ect 2+ LOS and it kills a wolf instead of a TWC. CatSmasher
This may seem simple, but if you're disembarking a troop squad remember to bubble up your special weapons. I have done this with melta too many times trying to get in range. Wulfgar Ironmane
i current use 5 tanks, 3 razors and 2 vindis.i put the vindis next to each other so they nearly or pretty much touch and then put two razorbacks at the side.Boost em max range and then pop smoke with em all.So if your opponent wants to shoot the vindis it will always be the front armour. Which i want as i like to keep my vinids whole.. ^^;sure my razorbacks might get focused on first, but then he will have two pie plates on his face. Unless he has a knight titan with thermal cannon or something similar..
