Good day everyone,

I had a great game against a friend at the local GW this week. We played a 2000 pt game against his latest army of guard with scions and an inquisitor (anti-psyker). It was a great game and lasted about 3 and a half hours, being decided in the final turn.

Game type: Malestrom 1

Lists (roughly)

Wolves, CAD and Company of the great wolf detachment

Ulrik and Harald, Wolf Priest with combi melta

4x Wolf Guard in termie, LR with las (with Ulrik)

Arjac, Wolf guard with combi melta in a pod

3x thunderwolves, ss and pf

6 Fenresian wolves

6 blood claws with termi leader with chainfist and combi melta in a pod

10 Grey Hunter with Meltas and combi melta

Vindicator

long fangs with ML

Guard, CAD and inquisitor

Anti psyker inquisitor

Pask tank with two S8 template tanks

2 huge blobs of guard with las gun

command squad with vox caster

Las team and ML team

2x Manticore

Flier (Vendetta? Multiple las)

Deployment

He won fist turn and I was nervous about his fire power. I deployed everything I could, hoping to divide his fire. I put what i could in cover. I put harald with the thunder wolves and left the fen wolves in a forest at the edge of my deployment. He bubble wrapped his tanks, deploying them on the rear lines, and using his blobs to make a huge cushion to keep my pods out of melta range. Thankfully meant he chose sub-optimal range and LOS in the early game. We forgot to put out the objectives so we did so after deloyment, and as usual forgot to roll for night fighting.

Turn one (1-1)

Guard

His first volley was devastating, the maticores smashing my Vindictor (first blood) and taking two hull points off of my LR. The Long Fangs were depleted by AP3 blasts that ignored cover due to psychic power. Harald tanked the heavy weapons team, losing only one of his escort wolves. Thankfully, it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Pask was out of range, along with his infantry. I didn't lose any wolves, and could still move the LR.

Wolves

My drop pods slam into the center of his line, trying to get into melta range with little success. The wolf guard and blood claws came down first. Trying to box him in and provide targets other than my main assault force. My melta guard scattered just too far out of range to be helpful. Thankfully my LR smoked a manticore and my squads shot up some guardmen. I wasn't pleased that I didn't get to dig into his armour, but i had started to build the screen. I advanced with my wolves on either flank and captured one objective

Turn Two (2-1)

Guard

His flier came in a took another point off of the LR. His remaining manticore shot poorly and I only lost one wolf in the thunderwolf blob. My DS teams got lucky with some poor shooting from the rattled guardsmen, With Pask and his posse smashing the wolf guard unit leaving only the wolf priest and arjac standing. He also drops a scion team on a central objective, too close to my thunderwolves

Wolves

Third pod of GH drops and popped a tank, with the LR moving its pay load of termies near the imperial lines. The fen wolves charged through terrain on the right flight to establish a three pronged attack against a large blob of guard that included his psyker warlord. The Thunderwolves swept into the scion team as harald rode off on his own. Ulrik and his retinue charge out of the LR after Arjac losing a wound as he absorbed the overwatch. The Blood Claws hack through a squad of guardsmen who are commanded to stay and defend the line. In the main fight, the fenwolves and terminator fight there way out of combat, killing everything in sight

Turn 3 (3-2)

Guard

The guard lines are holding by sheer volume. Pask and crew rips into the exposed terminators killing a SSTH and double claw, even after a few saves and one 6+ FNP. The wolves have consolidated out of LOS and my thunderwolf team is sitting on a final objective under a bridge. (He had two Object 3 cards, and a dominate option) His heavy weapons team thin out the grey hunters, but didn't lose many and kept my specials alive.

Wolves

My blood claws continue to dig into his guard blob, this time forcing them to run off the table (objective). I reform my line and prepare for another assault. Smashing into the remain of a 50 man sq, hoping to kill his psyker warlord for 2x objectives. I leave my thunderwolves to contest objective 3 and prevent his flier from grabbing a 3+ point swing. Harald find his command squad but fails his charge.

The grey hunters drop one of Pask's escort but cannot charge.

Turn 4 (5-4)

Guard

WIth his lines engaged, the guard commander works to squeeze every meaninful objective he can. His flier hovers over to secure an objective and he continues to hold his castled objective. His warlard dies in an epic clash with my wolf priest, killing each other in a flurry, but denying me an objective point. His las team are in shambles and his misses the blood claws that are storming him

Wolves

The battle continues with my army bogged down in guardsmen. The blood claws close in on the heavy weapons team and Harald kills the final leman russ in pask's retinue

Turn 5 (5-6)

Guard

Pask remains, defiant as ever. His volley eliminates the thunderwolves protecting objective three, but it is too late.

Wolves

The wolves shut the door on the guard. Unleashing a furious volley into the remain vets, forcing a failed test and securing an objective in the process. I have broken their lines and secured the retreat of the Guard in the final hours of an epic battle.

Wolves win, 6-5!!

Thanks for listening.
