Helias_Tancred
I painted my first blood angel a base of meph red, then a layer of evil sunz scarlet, then did highlighting in jokaero orange (watched a paint video online and got the idea for that color combo). The rest of the minis ive been painting have been my death company. However I'm almost ready to go back to my regular blood angels and finish a 10 man tactical squad and a 10 man assault squad. I'm not happy with the first red blood angel I painted. The reds are too bright and I didnt like the jokaero orange as a highlight edge. So I'm back to the drawing board as to how I want my red blood angels to look. I'm thinking either a darker --> khorne red base, highlight in wazdakka, and then detail highlight in evil sunz. Or trying a mephiston red base, and a evil sunz highlight. My goal is a good tabletop quality. What red combos do you use on your blood angels? (I prime in chaos black spray on) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299071-blood-angel-red-combos-what-to-use/ Share on other sites
greendestiny
I don't prime with chaos black. For quick BA's I do a flat red spray. Like a red automotive primer such as Krylon. Then dip the whole model. Pic out a few highlights and details and boom fast BA's. They look pretty good. Bryan Blaire
Mephiston Red -> shade recesses with Carroburg Crimson -> clean up with Mephiston Red, edge highlight only with Evil Sunz Scarlet -> spot/point highlight with Wild Rider Red You could also simply do a darker over all color by using Carroburg Crimson over all of the Mephiston Red base, then use Mephiston Red to do the edge highlight and then spot highlight with Evil Sunz Scarlet. On this DA painting resource, I did an entire paint comparison of three different methods of doing red (using the new GW colors - Marines 1, 2, and 4), if you go through the painting of the bolter casings, it might give you an idea you want to use. Inquisitor Eisenhorn
Khorne, carrowburg wash, Mephiston, nuln oil selectively in joints, recesses, etc. (but not the flat surfaces) highlight with suns scarlet, extreme optional wild rider red for final highlight. Looks tempting. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299071-blood-angel-red-combos-what-to-use/#findComment-3859952 Share on other sites
