recon0321
So this idea has been floating around in my head...I have thought about a renegade style group of marines that hire themselves out to further their own interests...there not pro chaos or pro imperium there only out looking for the next big thing... Any ideas on how to fluff this idea out into maybe a kill team size army? Stercus
Maybe the remains of a company that were stranded somewhere and believed to be casualties. When they were rediscovered by (inquisitor/Mechanicus/other chapter) records indicate that they are dead, so not trusted, maybe even attacked? They take umbrage at this and disappear. Today, still wanted by the imperium, they survive as soldiers of fortune.if you have a problem, if no one else can help, if you can find them, maybe you can hire (insert chapter name here).... Grotsmasha
A Renegade Chapter? Yep, they exist. There's a really good example in the HoH, the Iron God Pirates maybe? I'll linky when I find it. Cheers, Jono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299124-space-marine-bounty-hunter/#findComment-3859234 Share on other sites

Lysimachus
Love the kill team idea, a handful of properly badass mercenary Marines! Extra kudos if one of them is a big Techmarine with black skin, Mohawk and a goatee; and a Gladius class frigate painted black with a red stripe! As an aside, the Iron Gods Grotsmasha mentioned are one of my projects, their fluff and my minis are linked in my sig so feel free to take a look if it will help spark any ideas! GrandMagnus
Hey, I like this Idea, I might give it a try myself in the future. Personally, rather than half a company gone missing, bla bla, warp, bla bla rediscovered, I prefer the idea of individual marines tempted by their own personal needs, disappering mysteriously from their chapter (maybe fleeing in battle on purpose to escape the doctrine etc), then having met eachother they band together and form a small mercenary group. Oh yeah, Im definetly doing this. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299124-space-marine-bounty-hunter/#findComment-3859464 Share on other sites
JeffTibbetts
Interesting idea. I thought of these guys as soon as I read it. Some classic Rogue Trader for ya. I like the idea of marine renegades, and I will ALWAYS like the idea of heavily personalized armor. Right down to the graffiti. Of course, I don't think those two are necessarily even supposed to be be renegades... But compared to today's monastic marines, they're close! GrandMagnus
Im thinking marines who remove their chapter badge and heraldry (maybe not all of them, but most) to show they abandon their chapters and maybe wear a common uniform or even camouflage (going for practicality over aesthetics). recon0321
Yea I was thinking broken Aquila's etc...maybe something like the old red corsairs just painting a X... SCL the iron gods are awesome I like the whole red armor panel...Shows loyalty but still individualized Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299124-space-marine-bounty-hunter/#findComment-3859497 Share on other sites

UltraCaptain
Horus Heresy has a type of game called "strike force". A 500 point army, with 150 points for 3 characters or independant characters and "up to" 350 points in infantry. You do not take squads, but individual models instead. And you are not limited to one legion, but can choose freely. It would fit nice with a small A team, but ofcourse doesn't work if you plan on normal big games. ElectricPaladin
I play Knights of Blood, and they're a renegade chapter. Although they still fight for Mankind, they don't particularly care for the Imperium and actively dislike the Inquisition. I always pictured them sometimes taking money or supplies in return for their help, when it's offered (or, you know, just lying around...) because it's tough when most Forge Worlds won't resupply you and the Inquisition and Lords of Terra are trying to track you down with their pet Astartes chapters (I still can't wait to face someone's Grey Knights, Red Hunters, or Minotaurs on the table - gotta forge that narrative!). I also see them as occasionally being willing to work for xenos, provided their target was Chaos or other xenos (ie. they'll take stuff they can sell or trade from the Eldar in return for helping them to kill Tyranids or Daemons, or other xenos races like the Orks or Tau).
