gmaleron
Hey guys, since I am planning on constructing two infantry themed and heavy armies with my Elysian Drop Troops and Tau Empire Battlesuit Army I am leaning towards a tank heavy/themed army for Horus Heresy. After looking through the available Legions (there are several players at my store and we almost have all the Legions) I have settled on the Iron Hands as they fit the fluff of a tank heavy army. Now I am brand new to Horus Heresy so please any and all help is appreciated, thanks for posting guys! Memento Of Prospero
Fielding a primarch at this point level is pretty much a bad idea. Ferrus is quite the point sink as it is. Also, grav guns don't really fare well in transports, they are better off along a gunline as a deterrent to transports or CC units in general. They are heavy 1 and blast marker, so they can't even snap fire after disembarking. Plasma weapons are much more valuable on support squads, as they are the most versatile. UltraCaptain
How do you get 5 heavy? RoW? Because you can't take a RoW and alternative FoC at the same time. I would go normal FoC, take two tacticals in rhino and outflank them with the IH RoW. I would consider if ferrus is worth taking, but I think he is - alone because of coolness :) Vindicators are cool, but a weak choice in 30k. Consider predators or the scorpio and sicarian tanks (boty venator and battle). If you got to drop a heavy, take a dreadnought instead :) Gravity guns are mainly for anti tani, they blow anything up. You could kill a reaver titan or two with that amount. Just saying :p I overall like it, but most armies can play clever and heavily hamper your chances of winning. My own 3000 pt army has 7 vehicles, 1 flier, 2 counsils, aegis defence, perturabo and 47 infantry and i got 400 points left. So it seems close, but I think you can get more strength out of it :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299166-3000pts-iron-hands-tank-heavy-army/#findComment-3860964 Share on other sites
SillyDreadnought
Apoths are wasted in Gorgon units as they have FNP 5+ anyway. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299166-3000pts-iron-hands-tank-heavy-army/#findComment-3875848 Share on other sites
jeremy1391
Support squads can't be a compulsory troop choice... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299166-3000pts-iron-hands-tank-heavy-army/#findComment-3877318 Share on other sites
Emperors Teeth
He's using the Onslaught FoC... only needs 1 compulsory Troops choice. The Breachers fill this. Still have to question the 5 Heavy Support choices though, as Onslaught only has 4; Castrman Orth doesn't give you a bonus vehicle! Slips
How are you taking grav guns in a support squad? I cant find them in the red book listing? Huh, you're right, I can't find any mention of Tac Support Squads being able to take Graviton guns in LA:CAL or Betrayal.... 1ncarnadine
You can take them if you're running Head of the Gorgon in a squad that normally has an option for a flamer, but you can't take RoWs with Onslaught. soooo Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299166-3000pts-iron-hands-tank-heavy-army/#findComment-3889299 Share on other sites
