DerSchlankeMann
So I want to paint some Ultramarines off a black undercoat. Should I go with GW's Altdorf Guard Blue, Vallejo's Ultramarine or Army Painter's Ultramarine Blue as a base coat? If I go the Vallejo way, do I need to thin it, or is it good as is? Thanks all. GrandMagnus
Actually I would use the Macragge Blue if I were you. Its the right colour and it bases well over black undercoat. Kaedes Nex
You need to thin all paint unless it is meant for airbrushes, like Vallejo Model Air or Vallejo Game Air. Which company you decide to choose would largely depend on how you want your blue, gold, and silver to look. The kind of blue you pick really changes how your Ultramarines look. I prefer the old bright pastel blue of 2E so I find Vallejo and other companies give me more options, since GW does not make the original Enchanted Blue, Ice Blue, or Ultramarines Blue anymore and none of the new darker Ultramarine blues or Lizardman bright blue-greens look quite right.
