ZONKEY
Hello, just a minor question regarding the dark angels squad marking, I was just wondering if there was a fluff reason why the dark angels differ from other chapter squad marking by the I mean the tactical squad mark and then devistator squad marking? Grotsmasha
The simple answer is there are multiple codex-compliant markings that Space Marines use to denote rank and position, and they regularly change those markings so that their enemies do not become familiar with them. What you're seeing the the current set of M41.999 Dark Angel markings, it's entirely plause that in M39, the Ultramarines or Blood Angels or any other Chapter were using them. *Fluff explanation over* GW design-wise? Just cause? 2nd Ed. saw a segregation of the Chapters with Ultra's, SWs, and DA/BA receiving their own Codecies. GW started to differentiate the Chapters with different markings and colour schemes. The Wolves started to get the wolf tail totems, the BA Tac/Ass/Dev coloured helms, and the DA different Tac/Ass/Dev markings.
