Raptors Space Marines WIP

Hey folks these are my Raptors that i have been working on. I haven't based them yet since i am going to be using water effects to make swamp themed bases i am going to wait until i am done with the whole army so i don't waste any. This is just a drop in the bucket for the army but reinforcements are soon to follow. This is my first time doing edge highlighting. Truth be told i am on the fence about it. I am going to order the transfers to put on the shoulder pans when i do the basing. Thanks for checking out my models. You guys help keep me motivated to keep on painting.

Thanks. I used Vellajo paints mostly but a couple GW paints  (abaddon black and lead belcher). I wanted to go with dull and/or muted colors because Raptors are the ambush/guerrilla tactics and having shiny armor didn't seem practical. I washed all the boltgun metal parts with nuln oil and the gold parts with seraphim to knock the shine off of them. I did the cloaks in the tiger stripe as well.

Lovely stuff here, the only thing I'd suggest would be to give the gold bits another coat of shade as they're still quite shiny (the eagle vents on the Cap in particular)? The rest, especially the camo, is excellent.

Very nice, and a cool chapter too. Camouflage is really impressive and not over-done. I like your edge highlights especially on the sergeant with the powerfist! I agree with the Strike Captain on the gold though, perhaps needs toning down.

Have you played many games with them yet? Just wondering how you find the Raptors chapter tactics :)

Thanks guy i really appreciate the comments. I haven't got to play with this army yet. Mainly because i have been trying to focus on painting them rather than them becoming assimilated into the grey tide. I know that if i was to pack them up to take them to play i would lose some of my momentum and it might take be a bit to get motivated again. I haven't decided on how i am going to do the vehicles yet. The camo paint seemed kind of redundant to do on the vehicles. So what i was thinking was doing them the same green with large black stripes (about 1/4 - 1/3 of the width of the vehicle itself) at a 45 degree angle on the sides and then using medical gauze that i will dye green to make into camo netting.

Also what would you think if i was to use plastic card to make all my combat knives into kukris? It seems that given they are the jungle/ambush specialist that it would be fitting. Thoughts?

Hey folks so i worked on my first attempt at adding kukris to my Raptors Sternguard. I am not sold on it yet but i think i am almost there. I think that it will add some uniqueness to my Raptors as opposed to the regular space marines combat blades. I will most likely have them sprinkled thoughout my army to make them more like jungle fighters. C&C always welcome.

Thanks. These are my first real attempts to paint and trying some new techniques. Ok so I have been doing a little more work. Here is Kukri 2.0 and a marine holding a scout blade for comparison.

Thanks. Unfortunately i am not able to make the kukris any thinner and still be able to pin the blade with a paper clip.

For the painting i am using Vallejo paints for the most part. I based the model with green skin green from army painter. Although when i was at my local shop a couple days ago i notice they actually have an olive paint that i will probably pic up. Then i am using Vallejo Russian Army green for my base and then olive drab for my line highlights. I think that traditionally Raptors Space Marines are a true olive drab which is lighter but i wanted to go with a little darker color. So for i am really happy with the color even with my rudimentary at best painting skills.

Camo, looking good. Overall paint scheme really great! I love camo marines. I agree with others on bringing the gold down a little notch, I always washed my gold with brown for shading and for darkening.

I would like to see that captain's helmet crest though in a brighter color: red or striped or perhaps make it look like it came of some wild animal. Fade from bone white to a dark brown for example?

Great looking marines!

That guy is just a veteran SGT for my tactical squad. That's why i didn't do anything special with him. I have another guy that i made to be my Issodon but i haven't finished painting him. But honestly i have been considering changing him. He looks too...generic? I have another command squad that i built a while back that i think might look good with this army. I am not sure i would ever use a command squad with this army, in game, but i think that a Raptors army command squad would look really good. I was considering painting them all the same way but instead of doing the helmets green like the armor or black like my veterans i would do them white, or white with a green stripe down the middle, to denote they are part of the command squad. That is still open right now since i haven't made any concrete plans on it. I really like this army and wanted to make my Raptors different and somewhat unique  without getting too crazy or ostentatious. I find it hard to have too much in this game that hasn't already been done but i wanted something that i could call my own so to speak.

This is the model i am considering to add as my Issodon or Raptors Captain but i don't like it how it is. One things i need to do is add a bolter some how but i am pretty limited on my options without changing arms around.

This is my current Issodon model (still finishing up the paint)

These are the gents i am considering for my Raptors command squad. I may make some changes to them as well.

I was attempting to make them have maximus leggings like the other guys did. It was a case of one of these marines don't look like the others. Yeah the apothecary looks a little better than the rest of my guys but the good ol boys over at Forge World are slightly better this than i am but i am catching up. Besides that's brother Orrin and he's an a-hole, all the battle brothers say so. He is always out staging everyone and he wears that white armor every where and he always gives their position away when they are in the field. That's right we are getting real sick of your crap Brother Orrin!
