Hear da Lamentation
Hi, A question came up in a recent game about ruins - and their second / third levels. In 5th certainly - things like bikes and cavalry could not climb up levels. One of my friends was saying this has now been removed from the rules and any unit can climb. I am struggling to find something which is "missing" - could I get some help from the Fang? JeffTibbetts
Your friend wanted to ride a bike up a ruined building's walls? Some friend... Rules-as-Written has a limit for me, and stuff like this drives me up the wall. This was a friendly game, right? Not some tournament? Yeah, I'd tell him that's ridiculous, but that's just me. Hear da Lamentation
To be fair - he was telling ME I could climb up to get those pesky marines hiding at the top of a ruin with my cavalry. Which to me seems entirely reasonable. If a guy can climb up a level - a wolf can sure as hell jump up. Bikes are a little more unlikely ..... what do the rules actually say ? CatSmasher
The rules don't exclude models moving up levels, the only limit would be space for the base. JeffTibbetts
Okay, the wolves seem more plausible. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299412-ruins-and-raised-levels/#findComment-3865301 Share on other sites

"Men, occupy that building!" "Negative, sir! It is already occupied by giant smelly wolves!" Hear da Lamentation
Thanks guys - looks like you can do this then. Sort of fair enough ... can you imagine ... you could lost the game because you had 20 TWC and the opposition had 2 blokes in a ruin. Would seem a little silly. You can spread yourselves so the opposition can't fit - but you can still attack from one level below anyway yes? Frater Cornelius
You must have line of sight and you must roll a sufficient charge distance. Cavalry do not get slowed by terrain, but must do a dangerous terrain check when they move though. Also, you need 3" per level. When all that works out, do your charge ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299412-ruins-and-raised-levels/#findComment-3865368 Share on other sites

He put all his objectives in upper floors and i couldn't go up.... with my offensive army... so poop Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299412-ruins-and-raised-levels/#findComment-3865477 Share on other sites
MustangTC
I don't know many ruins that could fit thunderwolf bases on, if the base won't fit does it mean the model can't go? Frater Cornelius
Be inventive. I managed to place a Dread base on an area around 1/4 of its size because the terrain was uneven and I could pin the edge of the base to the wall. Perfectly legal but incredibly cheesy. Z00Z
Round off all your ruin terrain ledges to stop bases being able to balance on them to stop the jetpack J-S-J BS :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299412-ruins-and-raised-levels/#findComment-3866013 Share on other sites
DanPesci
Yeah there used to be a rule in 5th that said cavalry/bikes could not climb levels, but they could attack 1 level up if directly below a model (i think). As far as i know there is now no rule saying they cant move up, you just need to get them up there, and roll the extra 3/6/9" range depending how high they are climbing. And then there needs to be enough room for them to fit of course. I don't know many ruins that could fit thunderwolf bases on, if the base won't fit does it mean the model can't go? As far as i know the model just needs to be able to stand there of its own accord, so even if the base is overlapping the edge, as long as you arent having to hold the model there to get it to not fall, you are fine - this may well change from tournament to tournament though? Hear da Lamentation
One of my mates managed to fit a Tervigon on the top level of a ruin (hiding from Jaws ....... ahh the good old days ) - so I sure as hell can get a TWC on there. Plus you can still attack from a level below .... PLus all my models are based with bluetack on the bottom ....... Joking ....
