Ming
http://defendersofcalth.blogspot.com/2014/11/orrrrrkkkkkksssss.html The linked battle report is pretty good, but it had the following elements of a cautionary tale: 1. This was just the first time my opponent had played in 7th edition with his orks, and the first time for the Green Tide formation. 101 Orks with sluggas and choppas that are fearless can be traumatic to face once this guy gets more experience. Frankly, I thought he'd just advance down the table as a wave to just wreck each unit he encountered. I think my turn 1 pod drop made him think twice about that idea, but he should have ignored the casualties and just charged in. 2. I'm not the best guy to use as a encyclopedia for the other guy's wargear. A day after the game I went back to my apocalypse book and when it seemed to make the Stompa even crazier on firepower, my opponent looked up his current rules and saw that he'd missed the opportunity to fire the gatla (2d6) three times per shooting phase (until the ammo could run out). There are probably other things he did not do right...Heck, I'd recommend he goes with this list for a while just for "fun"...imagine putting grots and a mek in the Stompa...and getting the list to 1650 vs 1499... 3. My current list / game work has had me ignoring the large/superheavy stuff - trying to tackle them first off has not worked well for me. I still need to go to the drawing board and figure this out. I need a good alpha strike capability that could kill either a 6HP shielded knight or a 12HP Stompa in one go. I get close, bet never quite there. The cheapest but costliest fix is to get my Sternguard back to 10, add in 4 more combimeltas...that might increase the probability for success for the cheapest points...the other option is replace a different unit with a command squad also packing melta. I end up with the same amount, but in two baskets. 4. I this game I simply reduced a 1650 list to get down to 1500...and added meltabombs to the tac sergeants and an auspex to the Sternguard sergeant. None of that helped in this game...just goes to show that wargear can be hit or miss on use depending on the opponent...the auspex did help on reducing cover saves for orks, probably got its points back for that. Might have been better to have had a HKM on a predator or Rhino...the Stompa did just have one HP remaining...
