Cult of Angron

Brothers and Sisters,

I am in the middle of a fluff pickle.

I am a long time Khorne and World Eaters fan and have a decent sized pure Khorne Daemons army and a lot of Forgeworld beserker bits and axes I have yet to use from a few years back. I want to start a 30k WE army that I can double as 40k if i need to,  and I have a few questions.

The idea behind my army is that a aggressive company of siege specialists who were the few who still envied Angron even after most of the legion started to despise. They also witnessed his Apothesis on Armatura.

Being the blood crazy zealots they were and wanting to emulate papa Angry Ron they decided to start using the funny looking symbols that covered there big bad red daddy and painted their armor to match. I want them to be like the very first Khorne followers in the legion.

It makes sense in my head that a group of WE's who basically worshiped Angron and saw him turn all daemony that they would try and emmulate him as close as possible.

I want to use a mix of 40k forgeworld bezerker bits with the 30k MKII and MKIII bodies because I think they look tanky and brutal. I also want to get vindicators and a Typhon siege tank. I want a really brutal looking group of breachers and bezerkers that would be the first ones through the hole that the siege tanks opened up.

I also want to paint my army red with a bright brass color.

What do you guys think? As far as I know the WE's were white and blue all the way up to the siege of terra, but I really want red. Did I make a good enough case for making them more chaosy?

If it sounds good I will start working on a deeper background and post progress pictures.

Thanks!

The World Eaters as a Legion are already well underway to becoming Khornate Berserkers in the days following Angron's ascension. Even though most of them aren't aware of it.

Hell, even during the aftermath of the Dropsite Massacre, the WEs were collecting skulls and building cairns that produced unnatural (i.e. Chaotic) effects.

I think your suggestion makes perfect sense - there were paintjob variations in the Legions, such as the red Serrated Sun chapter in the Word Bearers Legion, or the red-armed Red Talon chapter in the Iron Hands. Your suggestion of a World Eaters chapter painting themselves red to look more like Daemon-Angron works well.

My plan, as I find myself in similar circumstances, is to start out with a pristine, white and blue, loyalist World Eater force. I've pretty much finished that portion, and posted pics of it in the showcase thread.

Next step is an expansion of primarily white and blue  World Eaters, but with some gore spattering, more battle damage and weathering.

From there, each successive expansion will be more so, until I arrive at an entirely red and brass set.

So at the end of this, very long, project, I will have a distinctly early days force, a distinctly traitor force, and a bunch of models transitioning from the former to the latter. Given that I have 2.5k points already built at either end of the spectrum, the traitors are base coated, the early days force is entirely done, and about 4k more points in bags from Forge World still, I may finish this project up in early 2016.

The red World Eaters have been sitting on a shelf, base coated, for well over a year at this point. They get finished as my first 2015 project.

Hope yours goes a bit more quickly.

Edit; Pic of the currently built, ready to be worked on portions. Spoilered for size. Some of the finished early days force is in this pic, as it's a couple months old, but I've a similar number of built white figs for the first expansion. So, it conveys what it needs to.

So, really, looking forward to having someone else fall down this particular rabbit hole. Best of luck with yours.

Rampager: I think rampagers with the MKIII legs look more imposing and beefy.

Anyhoo, now I need help with a Heresy Army List. I have the following models

30 Tactical Marines, 10 Ramagers, Khârn, 1 contemptor with 2 chainfists.

I was thinking I could split off 2 rampagers and use them as sargents makeing two 16 man tac squads with bolters/chain axe. An 8 man squad of rampagers just feels right.

What else would I need? I want to eventually have a breacher squad and a typhon. Other than that I am not sure what I need to build. Maybe a squad of 8 autocannons?

For Daemons I have An'ggrrath, Urka the Headmaster, 64 Bloodletters, 6 bloodcrushers. I want to make my daemons cannon fodder in big games so I need my WE's to have the big guns.

I'm also in the early stages of a world eaters force.

I would add another unit of troops so you can use the Berserker Assault Rite of War.

I like the idea of an assault squad because they would create good visual variation to the army, though I have been told they are a bit points heavy for what they are.

I will give some of mine power axes to crack terminator armour and attach a primus medicae to make sure they survive long enough to make their points back.

Your tactical squads will get shot up pretty quickly without a form of transport. The spartan assault tank seems to be the most popular choice on these forums.

Auto cannon heavy support squads are a pretty common choice for taking on enemy flyers.

Rampagers are seen to be not worth their points, but if you are set on taking them I have been told that meteor hammers and jump packs are a good option.

You have two rampager kits, so I would use the four excoriator chainaxes as power axes in the assault squad (these look evil) and give four rampagers meteor hammers.

Red Butchers are the absolute most insane and aggresive of all world eaters, have good rules and have awsome models (my favorite terminator models yet).

I'm only giving advice from what people have told me on Bolter and Chainsword. My own army is no where near complete.

There is a short story, someone here will be able to put a name to it, that shows that even whilst the World Eaters were still hunting the Raven Guard on Isstvan V some of them had taken to painting their armour red in emulation of the way that Angron looked after a battle. Some embraced the change, others were disgusted and saw it as ignoble. Therefore, go for it.
