In the codex, it is specified that DW vehicles should be represented with the appropriate color. (White... Or black if you play them before the plain worlds...) But what about successors? Lots of them (DoC and AoR termis have already been represented in GW stuff) don't have a specific color or icon. How to make them WYSIWYG then? I would just use more icons (by that I mean censers, scrolls, decorative items), more ornate colour schemes, murals/freehand etc, than on your non-1st company vehicles.
