Donkalleone
A Queastion about excepting alternate modells on Tournaments. I want to build an alternative Vindicator with this Turret mounted on a RB/Predator. http://bitsofwar.com/237-large_bosky/heavy-tank-turret-with-crusher-cannon-.jpg I would prefer it this way since its easely modivied , cheaper and looks better in my Opinion. I know the weapon is mounted on Top so for measuring i would still choose the front ov the Rhino/RP/Vindi where the normal weapon should be. DanPesci
If you are asking wether it would be accepted in tournaments...probably depends on each tournament, as some allow only GW models, whereas some are open to conversions. Personally, i much prefer the front mounted vincicator, as it seems much more 'siegey', but thats donw to personal taste ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299469-alternative-vindicator/#findComment-3866729 Share on other sites
Vykryl
The Vindicator is modeled after the Sturmtiger from WW2. There is probably a good reason for not mounting that huge gun in a turret. http://www.achtungpanzer.com/sturmtiger-sturmpanzer-vi.htm However half this game is modeling so make your army as you want it to look. How does the Kromlech gun compare to the Vindicator cannon for barrel size? You would still need to measure from the end of the barrel most likely. Trying to do otherwise could end up in an argument with your opponent Edet: figured out how to shrink a pic on my phone Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299469-alternative-vindicator/#findComment-3866770 Share on other sites
ElectricPaladin
I have to admit that I'm in the "if it ain't broke, don't fit it" camp. I love the vindicator and the way that the gun pops out the front. It's a brutal little bulldog of a tank. But... there's no accounting for taste - it's your army, make sure you're happy with it. Remember to move the storm bolter to the top of the turret so it doesn't look like the tank will shoot its own gun off. DanPesci
Aye the other problem with having it turret mounted, as vykrly says..is that you should measure from the barrel as thats in the rules (and tournaments are sticklers for the rules!) Now, you could measure from the front of the tank, but then your kinda guessing where the barrel would actually be. Ie a vindicator barrel isnt the front hull, its about 2/3 of an inch off the hull) Whereas a turret mounted cannon gives you a higher elevation for LOS, and is also technically 360 arc (i know youve said you wouldnt use it as such - but its kinda going against the whole vindicator pattern there) - so you could get into arguments either way in a tournament. Frater Cornelius
Tournament always have or require you to bring a reference model. They actually encourage conversions seeing as most give you additional score for having an awesome army. Donkalleone
I think there will be no Arguments about it. The "basic" modell are the same. The measurements are not in my favor since i measure from the middle of the hull (hight and widthwise). i have enough picturesof it in my book. I will at no point argue about taking the Turret as measurement refference. My basic Question was that if it counts as a Vindicator (recognition of teh weapon) since this is a easy replaceble and cheap alternative for a 46€ modell. If i dont want to run a vindicator i can easily make rb/rhino or predator out of it and thats my goal. Vykryl
Check with where you play. If the measurement would be an issue maybe you could craft a new top plate that sits on top, like the old Predator kit. It covered the round hatches with a turret mount, used the tabs for the rectangle hatch to keep from sliding off. I'll see if I can find a picture since I'm away from the model at home. Edit: Not exactly what I wanted but you can see how much the turret has been moved forward Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299469-alternative-vindicator/#findComment-3866912 Share on other sites
