Charlo
Hey Brothers, just a quick one! Are you allowed to use Legion allies in a 40k List? E.g. Taking a main force of codex Blood Angels and an allied Detatchment of Crusade Legion list? I just want a Moritat... Although I know he probably can't count as the necessary HQ... Thanks! Slips
I would rule against it. And even if you could, paying 150 points for a minimum sized 10 man Tac Squad as compulsory troops wouldn't be worth it. Also a Moritat doesn't count as a necessary HQ. Even the RG Special Moritat character can't. So, for the sake of getting one into a 40k game by allying, you'd have to take a minimum of 1 consul which is 50 points with no upgrades. That means no medicae, no master of signal, chaplain, etc. Then take a Tac Squad at 150 (again, barebones) to finally be able to take a Moritat, which, once geared up, will cost around 125+ points. Roughly 325 just to bring in a Moritat is counter productive. You're better off just running a 30k list and seeing if anyone with a 40k army minds playing against you. Sorry to burst you're bubble :p Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299474-legion-allies-in-40k/#findComment-3866797 Share on other sites
Charlo
No I know! Just wanted to use them to represent some cool veterans in my fluff or the like but oh well! Maybe I'll just have to start making my models compatible with both legion and chapter lists I do really want to try an Imperial Fists Moritat though... Nothing like Cowboy-ing down squads of anything. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299474-legion-allies-in-40k/#findComment-3866804 Share on other sites
Slips
Well, if you want a truly devastating Moritat, you'd have to go with Alpha Legion and use the new relics in conquest. Two of them are pistols. One being generic the other being Alpha Legion. TECHNICALLY SPEAKING, you could strap both onto the same Moritat. Sure, he'll cost almost as much as a Land Raider with all that gear, but hot damn will he melt every and anything he shoots at. An Imperial Fists one wouldn't be half bad, shooting at BS6/7 but you're stuck with Bolt Pistols. I'd personally go with a more mobility orientated Legion and give him either Dual Volkites and melt hordes galore or Dual Plasma Pistols and make everything without an invulnerable save cry. However, if you go up against someone whose familiar with 30k, this may not be worth it since they are likely to just gun him down before he ever got more than a single round of shooting out. To counter that you'd have to give him a Destroyer Bodyguard (the only unit he can join) and they aren't exactly cheap. Even less so when you give them jump packs. In conclusion, ( :p ) if you want to field a moritat, especially since most 30k players are familar with them now, you'd have to build a list or a substantial part of a list around them. Using them as a suicide unit is a waste of their potential, imo, even if thats their fluff. Granted, if you get him to shoot you're likely to make his points back if you aim him at the right target. Teetengee
There is always the unbound option too, although convincing an opponent to play against 30k/40k unbound might be problematic. blackoption
I'm pretty sure 30K forces require the Age of Darkness force orgs. I am uncertain if they can go unbound. Dono1979
Book IV makes this a confirmation, it outlines the way things score and the army building methods. Unbound is not a thing, however this doesnt prevent friendly games playing however you like. Not sure about the Alpha Legion relic and I don't have a copy of my book handy to check, but the generic relic, the Nanyte Blaster is actually a Range 12", Assault 1 weapon. Even though the descriptive fluff makes it sound like a pistol, it isn't listed as having the pistol rule. Probably just because this would be truly evil in the hands of a Moritat. More useful relics for a Moritat would be the Cloaking Array or Phase-walker.
