My Space Wolves 1500 list.

Here's my list and I'm completely bored of it and it lacks shooting support that is clearly required in 7th ed 40k.

i've been feeling really demoralized about my space wolves, and thinking of selling them, i can't seem to come up with a competitive list. Im thinking about grabbing 2 of the flyers, anything that will make it competitive. I really need some help please. My meta is strictly competitive and i play space wolves because i like the look and the fluff of them,

Wolf Lord, Fist, Shield, Thunderwolf , Runic Armor, 2x Fen wolves
WGBL Fist, Shield Thunderwolf, Runic Armor, 2x Fen wolves.
Rune Priest, ML2 , Bike

Grey Hunters , 10, 2x melta, 10 x CCW POD
Grey Hunters, 10 2x melta, 10 x CCW POD
Grey Hunters , 10 , 2x Flamers, 10x CCW POD

Thunderwolf Cav, 6,
5 x SS
5 x Claw
1x Fist and Claw

I was wondering what i should do to a) add more shooting support it, the list feels way too one dimensional and one trick pony'ish and b) what should ido next to get to 1850, imperial knight? flyers? if so what goes in the flyer?

Just a suggestion but what about going with 2 packs TWC of 4, giving each 3 SS's & 1 PW of any flavour. This lets you field 2 units, each of which can be led by an HQ letting you charge 4 different units on the charge & giving your opponent 2 priority targets instead of one. Switch your GH's to Rhinos &/or RB's. I find Drop Pods to confining. At least in Rhino's/RB's you can follow behind your TWC. Drop the RP & play with the pts in your GH's for a Predator or if your Meta allows FW, a Sicarian. That should help with your shooting.

To go to 1850, there are several options IMO. Obvious one is to take one of your GH's & stick them in a LR. Or 2 Vindis. One usually does not cut it. Or a pair of Predators or rifleman dreads. As you said there is also a Storm Grr(Storm Wolf) & throw some BC's in it. Play Wolves Unleashed Detachment & you can have them T2. Or you could go W/G TDA but this usually means playing aggressively with your TWC. Alot comes down to units you have &/or are comfortable with. My 2 cents anyways. Good Luck.

My only comment is your list looks and feels like a mix of 5th and 7th but mostly 5th. You have a single mobile / fast unit so you going to struggle in an objectives based game. In 5th you could justify the multi-role GH build being good at most things, but in 7th you really need to diversify and specialise. I think you stuck a little with the role of the GH unit, is it CC or is it shooty. Paying for all those CCW across all 3 units doesnt bring that much more to the table.

I'd suggest a re-hash into smaller units, more tactical and specialisation. For example, what are your GH flamer unit supposed to achieve? What is their purpose? Would a unit of 5 skyclaws with 2 flamers and a combi-flamer achieve same for less pts? Then, 2 full units of melta GH's with CC? again, you need to ask the question if this is the best anti-AV units you can field. I think some of your frustration is stemming from the single-dimension and predictability you bringing to the table.

I'f suggest reading a few of the discussions over the last few months and still active threads on CoF, competitive list building and FW/Allied/detachment inclusion. There's been quite a few of these threads started by Immerstum which have helped and shed a bit of light on a range of issues.

For eg. I'm playing a game next saturday where i'm fielding thunderstrike & void claws formation, TWC, Landspeeders, LF's, Skyclaws and GH in Rhino's. We have a lot of options now, I'd suggest departing a little from the "GH must take mentality of 5th and 6th"
