GuardsmenBob
Hello, I was in a tournament and was doing decent until i started running into lance formations, so my question is whats is IG'S most effective way to deal with knights. Kilofix
Against Lance Formation, a Squadron of 3 x Basilisks. They hit hard enough, large enough and with Barrage you hit their side. Kierdale
Manticores would also be a good one for stripping HP and hitting sides other than that shielded. WarriorFish
Indeed, artillery is great for tackling big nasties as not only is it powerful but hitting side armour with ordnance from long range is almost the perfect way to foil Knights. It'll give your opponent a dilemma about what to do with his shielding which will help your other AT weaponry. Otherwise there's dropping in some melta; Valk or Vendetta or deep striking Scions but you'd have to muster an additional threat so the shield doesn't foil you. Perhaps outflanking Sentinels could also perform this role, suitably equipped? I feel artillery is the better way to go, but whatever you do it's something that requires a combined approach so you shouldn't rely on one thing exclusively. Kilofix
The only problem with Manticores is that you can't Squadron them so you'll use up all your Heavy if going Battleforged. But if your board is big enough then 3 Basilisks and a hidden Deathstrike. Edit - Also meant to add Vendettas. Knights can't hit air. librisrouge
Beyond artillery, which is great because it can get past the Ion Shield, consider massed Meltagun units mounted up. Four Veteran squads and Two CCSs with full meltas would not be something I want to see on the other side of my own lance. Take that as advice from a Knight player. Also, if you're going to take air power, take more than one unit. The big point to beating Knights is to hit them from multiple angles so that they have at least one side being attacked that doesn't have their Ion Shield. Without the shield they tend to fold quickly.
