Bane of my life

Recommended Posts

Greetings and salutations fellow dudes.

I have a game planned for next month and was looking to give my spanking new knight a run out.

My opponent in response to this has done a dirty deal with the steam-punk men of Mars and got hold of a baneblade. The git. Haha.

From our past encounters I know he likes to field quite an armoured list which can include a Pask vanquisher, an executioner and/or punisher, AP3 hell hound and manticores/deathstrike supported by valks/vendettas with melta vets in chimeras. All of this is then packed behind an ADL. (He doesn’t like my dogs in pods)

The game will only be 2k so the bane blade will be a major point sink for him.

I have never faced such a tank, and from various reviews, tip and tricks found here on B&C and other forums, (yes there are other forums, not as good though!) they can be hard as nails to pop. I would ask to harness the vast knowledge and experiences of our mighty chapter against such a foe…..

Here is my first list…..(I know your reading this Scatman)

'Only' 2k, huh. That is actually already on the bigger echelon :P

Anyway, IT IS DE BEEEEEEEEEEEENBLAAAAAAAAAAAAAADEEEEEEE!!!

Sorry, could not resist a Diomedes reference :P

Okay, how do you beat one? Well, you know the difference between IG BB and the SM variants? The IG one can not get Ceramite plating. LETS MARIO PARTY!!!

Basically, drop pod melta the living Diomedes out of it. However, not what I would do. Well, depends on the variant. I would also go for it if it was the Shadowsword (Destroyer on main gun), since it would destroy your Knight fairly easily.

In all other cases, that would be my plan:

Send Knight towards the BB.

Land melta pods as close as you can to the BB (but still in melta range of other tanks) and destroy those tanks that could threaten the Knight. A few good melta drop and Pask will bite the dust, same as all his Artillery. The reason behind it is that a non strength D BB is unlikely to kill a Knight in 2 turns outside of luck. Once the Knight charges it, the BB is gone. Manticores and Pask are a far bigger threat to it. If you kill those, the BB will be exposed.

The reason for landing close is that the BB blast is rather big and it will hit itself and its buddies.

So yeah, if you have first turn, move Knight to BB and melta every other threat with pods and Knight (knight does it very well due to his large blast). If you are going second, hide the Knight and hope his Vendettas do not come on T2. They can easily flank the Knight and avoid his 4++.

By the way, ever considered Gerantius? He only costs 130 more than an Errant Knight and is basically an Errant on crack. You can find his rules in WD Issue 24.

Last work of warning. A Knight is tough, but far from Immortal. There are lists that can kill 2 Knights in T1 without you being able to do much about it. Be careful.

Thanks for the reply Immersturm, its good to know that my plan is much on par with what you have suggested. Will just have to watch out for thoses 'dettas'.

I had to "google" Diomedes-baneblade, now I understand, haha. Something's are lost on me.

I believe he will be fielding a normal BB......well here's hoping, as a long range D weapon will be somewhat.... annoying. haha.

I love the BB as a model and I am quite looking forward to going toe to toe with one.

One of us will post a batt rep (of the SW victory) once the dust has settled.

About 3 weeks ago I watched a knight eat a bane blade for breakfast. It was brutal and my guardsman buddy was sad. Come to think of it so was I as the knight was hanging with some eldar and the bane blade was on my side...

Anyway I delete bane blades with a melta alpha strike reasonably reliably. And even if the knight doesn't make combat T1 with the bb he does have a melta cannon to help the alpha strike.

Long and short Immersturm has the right of it. Only draw back of being close is the giant explosion when you blow it up. Hope it scatters away from you or that he rolls low on the table. The knight should be ok with that blast as long as it's not the highest on the table.
