JeffTibbetts
Does anyone have a good reference for vials or pots or jars filled with fluids of various colors? I've seen a few things online, but I'm looking for a really realistic effect. I know Dark Eldar (puke) have them all over, but I'm rarely impressed by the paint jobs. I've seen a few apothecaries with cool ones, but I can't seem to find any good ones. For some reason, I'm really struggling to find good reference material. Tips? Share examples? Point me in the right direction? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299646-tips-for-painting-vials-of-fluid/ Share on other sites
ShinyRhino
Try here: http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com/2011/04/apothecary-vials-painted-like-glass.html I talk about my struggles with the same thing on my blog here: http://thinyourpaint.blogspot.com/2014/07/that-was-disappointing.html And the solution/good enough point here: http://thinyourpaint.blogspot.com/2014/08/numerian-castor-apothecary.html (in the end, I just put at tiny drybrush of white over the colors while leaving the colors visible. Makes it look like scuffed or frosted glass. JeffTibbetts
Thanks for that. I do like the bubbles you added in yours. I wonder if there's a way to make it look like frothy at the top without just looking silly at this scale? I wonder if there's a way to make it look like frothy at the top without just looking silly at this scale? My guess is no. They're so small that the detail would never be seen. I think the best you could do would be to paint some small bubbles at the top in your chosen fluid color, and then lightly fill those back in with white, leaving just a sliver of color around the edge of the bubble. JeffTibbetts
Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking. Maybe just bigger bubbles I guess. Dosjetka
If you can locate the old White Dwarf where Darren Latham (?) paints the Sanguinor in NMM, there's a damn good little tutorial hidden in there which shows how he painted vials with blood in them. Can't recommend it enough. And yes, I'll try looking on my side to see if I can find the aforementioned tutorial :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299646-tips-for-painting-vials-of-fluid/#findComment-3870246 Share on other sites
