CoffeeGrunt
Hey guys, Has this come up in a game when I was using Pask in a Punisher. As you probably know, Pask gives the Punisher cannon Rending, and also has the ability to re-roll Penetration rolls. Rending gives an extra D3 to Penetration on top of the normal D6. Now, this is a bit awkward to try and work out how to play, because unlike Melta or Armourbane with its standard 2D6 Penetration, you need a result on one dice to decide if you even get to roll the other. Hence you can't just throw both dice down, then re-roll the result if it isn't the one needed. The way I'd interpreted it, was that you would roll the initial D6s, and re-roll any failures as needed, then roll the D3s, re-rolling any failures among them. The way my opponent thought it worked, was that I dealt with the D6s as above, but when re-rolling failed D3s, I had to roll them again as D6s, find any 6s, then roll the D3s on them. Also threw this one up on BoLS' Lounge, and the verdict seems to be that you would only re-roll the D6s initially, collect together all the 6s, and then roll those into D3s for the Rending bonus. The rulebook's annoyingly absent on any answers to this as far as I can tell. Does anyone have a good answer to how this should be run? Acebaur
I would do it like this. You roll for pen with X hits. Then you re-roll any that failed to roll a 6 (assuming you are looking for 6's only). Then the rending rule kicks in and it says "..roll of a 6 allows a further D3 to be rolled, with the result added to the total" To me that means you get an additional D3 to your armor penetration roll which can then be re-rolled. It's not part of the original roll so it doesn't qualify as a re-roll of a re-roll and it's not a 2D6 as it is only triggered by a 6. Kind of a grey area though. MrSocks
I'd suggest that the BoLS have come up with the model answer as to an acceptable way to interpret the rules between your opponent and yourself without causing an unnecessary argument, however Acebaur has a point and the case could be argued that he is right by RAW. If I was in your positions or your opponents I would just re-roll those that failed to rend initially, and then roll the rending on top but not allow re-rolls as per BoLS, assuming that the rending is not actually an armour penetration roll, it's just a special rule that adds to your penetration roll, I don't know if that's true and I'm no where near a rule book so I can't check, but I can see there being resistance to double re-roll despite the fact that you would be able to with a melta.
