Gav has his Ravenwing trilogy done and is heading off to the BL to discuss the HH nature of our Legion...

Doomed...

To quote the Angry Marines: "FUUUUUUUUUUU......"

Whatever happened to Abnett doing them for Imperium Secundus and so on? Hell I'd even want Alan Bligh to write it because he gave Abnett ideas for the 1st in UE.

I mean Thorpe did well with Angel of Darkness, but the Lion was bleh and so were the first two books. It's sad when cameo appearances in Abnett's and ADBs books are better than anything we've seen thus far.

Tell him to keep his grubby fingers off my sexy Corswain!!! He's already done enough damage by killing Nemiel!

My point exactly.

and I do not agree that Angels of Darkness was good.  The premise is good but too many people didnt grasp that the POV of the fallen spewing falsehoods was actually spewing falsehoods...  Bad epilogue I guess.

Sorry how did UE make the DA look good? Yeah forgot to give the heads up on certain issues pertaining to a psychopath Robbie, sorry about that, talk about faux pas huh?

The emergence of the sets of wings, some background, seeing some of the Lions motivations, the feud between the Lion and Curze.....

Hey, I liked The Lion in The Primarchs Anthology! Gav hasn't been totally bad to the DA, Purging of Kadillus was pretty good and, while I have not read Master of Sanctity (yet) I liked Ravenwing.

To be fair to Gav, I think he understands the Angels better than certain writers we have faced, and, while I like the direction ADB and Abnett took in their stories, Thorpe seemed (in The Lion) to continue with that theme. I think that, despite a rocky start with Descent of Angels and Fallen Angels our HH era stuff is starting to take off. I remain quietly optimistic.

Disclaimer: I reserve the right to vent my frustrations should his HH work fail to come up to a reasonable standard :P

Is it too much to hope that we can put the Gav-bashing on hold until he's actually written* the whatever-it-is?

*I assume from the context that Gav will be writing something about Dark Angels. His post on Facebook is ambiguous.

Different tastes I guess...   Purging of Kadillus is 110% bolter porn with no redeeming qualities at all...

And Ravenwing?...  Bikes on a space station that you have to use the elevator to get to the top?  Why didnt you boarding torpedo to the top?  Space marines do Lightning strikes at the leadership and DA are better than most going from the fluff in the codex.

They knew where they needed to get to but decided intentionally to start as far away as possible?  Doesnt fit our modus operandi at all, Templars maybe, Purge and ZEAL  their way to the top, but not a good tactic for a rapid reaction force.

Yeah, thanks for the spoiler about Nemiel. If only there was some way to make it optional for a person to reveal such information...............

Book is almost 3 years old?...  What is the statute of limitations on Spoilers?

Blech. Legends of Angels event can probably yield better stories than a Thorpe novel.

DA should have a book in similar vain to Legion, but will probably instead get Battle of the Abyss instead. Maybe Thorpe will step his game up.

Sigh. I am not going to bash any authors because I can only speak from personal preference.

I can only be honest when saying I enjoyed Dan Abnett's take on The Lion immensely. Although I think the 'fight' in Secret Weapons was bogus (!) I loved the rendition of The Lion in that as well.

So far I haven't made it through Ravenwing. Throne knows I try, but put it down to read a new book every other chapter.  I thought I'd finally finish it (I have Sanctity sitting on my desk) but then Vengeful Spirit came out (great read) and I had to read that.

I will say I did enjoy the tail of the Night Lords hunting the Dark Angels in the warp in a short story he did.

But let's be honest for a second... after what happened with the 2 existing HH Dark Angel centric novels, are you surprised they decided to have him write one?

I'm not defending him or taking sides, but I don't know too many people who liked those 2 books. Plus some people seemed to really enjoy Gav's take on Corax. Just saying.... let's be fair. (Don't set my hair on fire, I just got a haircut).

I personally don't mind Thorpe's take on DAs and I enjoyed Angels of Darkness a lot. I'd also be happy to see other writers having a go - but not those who did the Fallen Angels and Descent of Angels as both books fell short of my expectations...

I still think ADBs portrayal of the Lion in the opening scene of the Prince of Crows is the best yet.

Generally it's advisable to always use spoilers when you're referring to the plot of a book - even if it's old.

Well this is at least interesting and pleasing to know they are being started on. I'm pretty happy bout it really as most FW HH related material is of an excellent standard.

Does anyone know how long the process takes from now until the book would come out? Would 12 - 18 months be a realistic time frame? I thought the next HH book/s were about Calth etc so there should be plenty of time to get the DA's done.

Is anyone here on good terms with Gav? No way of getting a HH meeting free wifi online audio broadcast? tongue.png

One of the best scenes was literally Bobby G turning his Ulraboy blue undies brown from the thought of the Lion having the capacity to destroy Macragge with his fleet.

Think about it, the guy who has 250,000 of the best legionaries in the heresy is scared of the Lion's 30-40,000 Dark Angels in orbit. This speaks volumes about El'Johnson's and the Dark Angels capacity for war.

Oh, that and when we find out that the Lion is Bobby G's Spiritual Liege :D

And that Both, or maybe all the other primarchs are scared of Curze. As you should be also.
