Earthshaker platform battery

Hi guys, Im looking at expanding the amount of artillery i have (or dont have) and i was thinking thinking of getting some earthshakers, at 75 points they seem pretty tasty for the first couple of turns of the game at least.

My issue is that forgeworld sell them for £71 each, which is ever so slightly out of my price range. So do you guys use them or have any idea for affordable alternate models?

Thanks.

I'm no expert on the updated kit for the bassie, but I would be tempted to say sticking with gw models, buy a bassie then leave the back with the gun removeable... either have that on its own or work out a new base (old cd should be good size) that it can sit on so you can swap between emplacement earthshaker or a bassie (might even have skills to make it into a chrimera when the gun is being used as an emplacement possible).

You mean this? In my opinion, something similar could be achieved by buying the Basilisk model from GW and separating the Gun from the Chimaera chassis (as mentioned above, run it as a Chimaera or even a Salamander). Then, all you need is a mount and some wheels, perhaps something could be found from Victoria Miniatures, Blood and Steel Industries or even Chapterhouse Studios?

How about some cheap plasticard tubing and a cd base?http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb281/amorfatipictures/20141122_190413_zpsrq1xnvz1.jpg

i made this in less then half an hour because i got bored,if you are willing to spend more time on them you can make them look absolutely amazing!

Really tempted to get a couple of these now, and make something of a diorama on the bases with the Guardsmen models I have. (I have a couple of spare Guardsmen with binoculars and such to act as operators for these.)

It seems to be the right scale for 40K, though I'm also tempted to just get a Basilisk, magnetise the gun to be detachable, and scratch build some sort of platform for it.

If I remember correctly the Bolt Action models are True 28mm rather than GW Heroic scale so the barrel/chassis will look too thin and spindly next to a Basilisk.

I recently invested in 3 Medusas from FW and they have a couple of advantages over the earthshaker:

1. They are cheaper (only £45 each)

2. You get the resin siege gun AND the plastic earthshaker cannon

This means that you have a large percentage of the Earthshaker (less the mountings and platform) plus a Medusa.

You would only have to find/make the carriage.

Here is a photo of the sprues you get with the Medusa. You have given me some ideas now :)

I really like the scratch made one and it's exactly in my price range. smile.png I'm thinking my artillery batteries are going to be looking similar to that. smile.png

do it! get yourself a couple of interlocking plasticard tubes in various diameters, able to interlock into eachother. I have tubes ranging from 1 mm up to 1.6 mm, all able to interlock into eachother. these tubes will allow you to make any imperial guard artillery gun/barrel you will want. for wheels, there is nothing easier than to order some cheap lego technic wheels! here are a couple of examples of pieces i've made with them:

heavy mortars:

extended vanquisher barrels:

heavy mortar on griffon:

quad launcher:

earthshaker carriage:

and the best part is that all of those were made for like less than 20 euros and i've still got plenty of tubing left to create 5 times their number! note that you will need a lot more of the smaller diameter tubing than the biggest.
