Vash is correct, you can have a Lord of War in a normal FOC and that's before you consider formations or unbound etc! Apoc only units don't really exist anymore, so feel free to add a Baneblade to your collection ;)

Ha ha! There are no such rules mate.

I think the tournament organiser is still living in 5th and 6th edition. He needs to drop all of that and enter 7th edition.

But I'll give him that old codex/Imperial armour books do refer to some units as "apocalypse only" units. But this was because they were written before 7th edition. Restricting players to "no apocalypse units" will result in some armies able to use Lord of War units because they have lost their "apocalypse only" status. While some other armies will be stuck with normal units because their "apocalypse only" units have not gotten their books re-written. Total rubbish if you ask me.

Stick to one set of rules or make restrictions.

It was specifically apocalypse choice, he didn't mentioned formations. I thought it was quite weird and asked for some explanation but never heard anything back. Its the Caledonian in the UK in January. 180 person tournament so would have thought rules would be pretty tight and well explained.

It's the weekend so give him some time to respond ;) Do you have a link to the event and rules? I did a quick search and found mention of a Caledonian tourney and I couldn't see any mention of super heavies in their rules pdf.

Rules pack on front page. I asked the question on page 4 and never got a reply. Sent a pm last week and told no apocalypse. I replied for an explanation as that basically means no low for astra militarum but never got a reply.

I understand the guy will be busy which is why I was asking in here about non apoc low choices.

The rules pack states Forge World units with a Warhammer 40,000 stamp are okay. IA1, 2nd edition came out before Escalation, so Lords of War weren't a thing at the time and all the super-heavies in it were stamped Apocalypse only.

That's what the Lords of War FAQ I linked above is for - it's basically a bunch of retrospective Warhammer 40,000 Approved stamps.

You should be okay with any unit on the FAQ list or in the Escalation book. subject to the tournament's <490 points rule. That includes Malcadors, Machariuses, and about half the Baneblade variants.

Obviously double-check your list with the organiser before you turn up, but by the letter of the rules pack, they're allowed.
