Filius
Humble Greetings, dear Sons and Daughters of the Emperor!Like many german Warhammer 40.000 Fans of my Age (leaving my 30s in a few weeks) my first Contact with Space Marines, was "Space Crusade", which was called "Star Quest" in Germany. Actually I did just resently look up the Game and was suprised to see this bright shining white Space Marine Armour. That design seems to got lost, but somehow, maybe because of the 80s-retro style, I kinda like it.Anyways, Space Crusade led me to Space Hulk (the Baord Game as well as the Computer Game), which again led me to the "real" Warhammer 40.000. I played a few times during the mid 90ies, just before going to university. I never got really into playing the Tabletop Game, but still kept a kind of weird love for 40k in a special place of my heart. So when Dawn of War came out I was quite happy and played that for some time. I liked the second game even more, because it finally had some Tyrandis to play and the Army-Design-Generator.When the Horus Heresy Novels got published in Germany, I started reading those, but stoped somewhere around the tenth novel. I read a few other Novels and bought the Core Rule Book as well as those Codices, which where of interest to me because of the fluff and to understand the "battle reality". After that, I got eaten alive by the cleverness of the new Black Library Strategy, so I have a few of those incredibly expensive Collectors Editions at home, as well as those Coffee Table Books with Artwork, not to mention lots of ebooks. At the same time I started buying older Artworkbooks. I really really love the early artworks. They still have this weird 70ies spirit. Oh those golden 70ies …To me the most intriguing aspect of Warhammer 40.000 was always, since Space Crusade, and has been until today, the option to create an own Chapter. In every Game, in every Novel in every piece of artwork, there's always a whispered invitation to create something like that by yourself. And so I started writing Fanfiction with an own Chapter (more of that later in the Liber Astartes Subforum), which until now sums up to only one short story. And that's written in German. But I like to write more, maybe even in English that's one reason I'm here now.Currently my main obession with 40k is "Warhammer 40.000: Conquest", which I really do like. I'm a frequent Card and Board Game player, and especially Card Games are popular at our home. I have the great luck and pleasure to be married to a wife, which also likes to play Board and Card Games, and so Conquest will probably become my main occupation with 40k in the next time, besides thinking about an own Chapter.Althought buying and painting minis after all those years is somehow also a constant temptation too … :DYour humble Servant,Benjamin Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299966-humble-greetings/ Share on other sites
JennifertheRedeemer
Welcome, strange and mysterious animeeple! Card games? Are you a Magic: The Gathering player? Filius
Thanks for the welcome! Your question is a bit hard to answer. I played those days, and still do own my favourite deck (Simic), but the number of matches I played would rather justify the expression "Learner", than "Player". P.S.: Ah, and by the way, we actually do play a ot of Agricola: All Creatures big and small at home. I really love all those tiny horses and sheeps. JennifertheRedeemer
Simic? Huh. Well, I guess that means you have the Evolve mechanic, yes? Personally I prefer Arcbound or Affinity for Artifacts, as well as Storm... Filius
@Pearson73: Thanks a lot! But actually … that might take a while, because I currently only write in German, which is challange enough. But on the other hand: Translating stuff to English would be a nice Challange. :D @JennigertheRedeemer: I'm not sure, what exactly you mean with "evole mechanic", but yes, Simic have a lot of Cards with Tokens that usually give +1/+1 and which can be rearranged among the Cards laying out. And as your mentioned Animeeple: Simic has lots of strange and beautifull Creatures. And my first 40k-DIY-Chapter Ideas are focused on bears and ravens … I haven't noticed that pattern yet. Thanks for the Enlightenment! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299966-humble-greetings/#findComment-3879155 Share on other sites
JennifertheRedeemer
Evolve pertains to a creature getting +1/+! whenever another creature with a higher power and/or toughness enters the battlefield. Experiment One and Adaptive Snapjaw have it. Oh, and I got Animeeple from Agricola to start with, so yeah, I never intended any puns. xD Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299966-humble-greetings/#findComment-3879813 Share on other sites
Filius
RIGHT! I totally forgot that feature. I just looked that up during the Breakfast. That got me nostalgic somehow, I really liked the Simic Guild Idea, messing around with Animals. It reminds me of the Ribofunk Manifaesto: "The proper study of mankind is life." It also reminds me, that I had also had a slither deck once. Again much evolvment and again strange animals … :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299966-humble-greetings/#findComment-3880106 Share on other sites
JennifertheRedeemer
Slivers are good but very vulnerable to Izzet decks like my own, which employ Annihilating Fire and Magma Spray to exile stuff, and Molten Disaster as a board wipe. xD Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/299966-humble-greetings/#findComment-3882646 Share on other sites
