Adeptus-Alaska
Well I happen to be the paint muscle for my son and after seeing Tommy seoules krom dragongaze, he has been all about spacewolves. Lucky me, I've always wanted to paint them. Though he says he wants them painted grey instead of the blue grey. Imy proud of my little grimdork. So with that, what is new and exciting with the sons of russ. Don't have the dex yet, but he'll get one for christmas.......at least I have it on good authority he will. I know he likes werewolves and wolves In general and he is really connected to his viking ancestry. tylerw
I reckon he might like Thunderwolf Calvary, Fenrisian Wolves, and/or the new SW Dread kit (or maybe just the bits to convert an existing dread you might have to Murderfang, a werewolf locked in a dread). tylerw
I guess, depending on how recently you are familiar with them:Logan is still playable as his previous figure, but he also has a sled pulled by Thunderwolves. Somewhat Santa-like. Thunderwolf Calvary are fantastic. They can be a bit overrated/overrelied on, but that's b/c they're our best unit, not b/c of some misevaluation of the unit. Grey Hunters transported by DPs or Rhinos are still solid. They'll do a lot of work. I've been enjoying the DP version a lot more atm as they provide the focused punch to deal with many of the biggest threats to SWs. Vanilla dreads in DPs with deathwind ML are fine for this purpose too. We have a cool flyer now. It is solid, although it's a better gunship in its "transport" version than the heavy support version. I dunno how your son plays, but if he wants to have fun (but still field a reasonably competitive army), TWC, a few dreads, drop pods, rhinos, and grey hunters will get him off to a great start. Kasper_Hawser
Speaking from fluff, Space Wolves are one of the few who can qualify as "good guys" in the grim darkness of 40K. Not sure if this matters to your son, for me that was what pulled me into starting Space Wolves as my first army, cunning warriors who look like barbarians, act like barbarians, smell like barbarians, eat like barbarians, but don't actually fight like barbarians, being Space Marines through and through, if more unorthodox then Vanilla marines and definitely more cunning and flexible. Donkalleone
TWC arent a Bad Start. We have plenty threats for builds etc. Btw,... Good Guys? We are Empereor/other Primarch (well Authority in general) defieing chapter that has beef with another and proudly can say Horus was a Wolf ( ;) ). Well we dont kill the innocent and such. Dont paint us white just grey like in the old times. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300001-whats-new-on-fenris/#findComment-3879066 Share on other sites

Frater Cornelius
We are Space Wolves and by definition beyond the measures of good and evil and entering the realms of 'Awesome' ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300001-whats-new-on-fenris/#findComment-3879410 Share on other sites
Adeptus-Alaska
Thanks guys. Yeah after turning him loose on the GW site, the TWC really got his attention. So did murderfang. Pretty much everything did. He's more of a collector than a player, but maybe I can actually get a game with him. I'm just happy he's not into blood angels as much anymore. Now I gotta find a krom mini I can convert for him. He wants a ham merely like mjolnir, more hair, and more wolf pelts. My son has named his wolf lord "Bulwie" and wants an honor guard like in the 13th warrior. The mind of a 10 year old...... Some useful things to know: The Space Wolves Dread kit comes with a BUNCH of options. You can make Bjorn, Murderfang, or a standard/venerable dread. The arms are really nice too - you'll be able to swap them even if you don't magnetize them, and if you magnetize strategically, you can swap the hands fairly easily (you might need to order 2-4 extra hand bits to do this!), but this gives you the various options. I don't know how feasible it would be to swap the coffins, magnetizing them tightly, but it might even be doable, if you want to be able to do MF/Bjorn/generic when you take the dread in different roles. You also get the Axe/Shield combination for the venerable upgrade, which is pretty cool, even if it's not the best thing ever. For that kit, you also get the following gun options for the right arm - Multimelta, Assault Cannon, and Helfrost cannon (also kind of cool, if not amazing), and it has the CC right arm too. It's a good one. It might be worth it to magnetize at least 1-2 of the TWC arms, so he can have some options for swapping. Sometimes you just want them to mostly have the basic loadout, and sometimes you want to throw in a power fist, storm shield, thunder hammers, plasma pistols, whatever. Karack Blackstone
http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/233656-shopping-for-space-wolves/?do=findComment&comment=2813092 Space Wolves Resources -> Shopping for Space Wolves Includes a great point: buying for more SW Marines can mean one SM Tac Box and a SW PA Box to spread the wolfy bits around; if not, then just get SW PA Boxes. Same for Dreads. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300001-whats-new-on-fenris/#findComment-3879716 Share on other sites

Kasper_Hawser
Recently I've been tempted to get a box of Warriors of Chaos or High Elves swordsmen, just for the axes and swords which are really awesome and make much better power weapons than what is currently in 40K. Just my 2 cents. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300001-whats-new-on-fenris/#findComment-3879885 Share on other sites
Ulrik_Ironfist
I've seen some downright amazing kitbash work with some warriors of chaos and a SW pack box. Instructions can be found here: http://space-wolves-grey.blogspot.com/2011/09/how-to-make-pre-heresy-space-wolves.html that btw is a great resource for space wolves stuff as well, lots of good articles on modelling, and gameplay.
