Cynicus
Hey everyone, I'm working on an Iron Warriors army, and I was wondering if anyone has any idea on how to convert combi-bolters for use by non-terminators, I really feel like this weapon choice makes sense for a unit of cheap(ish) chosen as anti-infantry firepower that doesn't try to kill your own dudes like plasma does, or maybe as something to give to champs in a unit of shooty CSM. Are there any easy conversions? Would the combi-bolter sets FW made for their heresy-era terminator armours work, or are the hands too big to fit nicely? Lucien Eilam
They have power armour versions too. Legion Combi-Weapons, based on their Tigrus-pattern bolters with scopes and box magazines: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Space_Marines/Space_Marine-Infantry-and-Accessories/LEGION_COMBI-WEAPONS.html Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300150-chaos-chosen-with-combi-bolters/#findComment-3882893 Share on other sites
Cynicus
I meant combi-bolters, as in the twin-linked boltgun thingies and not the combi-weapons. Lucien Eilam
Ah, sorry. You can fit the Cataphractii Terminator ones to power armour, but they're a bit unwieldy and it's quite limiting in terms of how you can pose them. If you go that route, I'd suggest getting some of the open left hand bitz from the Grey Knights Strike Squad and Blood Angels Sanguinary Guard kits, to use to support it instead of the standard bolter-sized grip. Cynicus
Do you happen to know if the Tartaros ones are any less unwieldy? Thanks for the tip, also! Lucien Eilam
Possibly a touch worse if anything. It's the width that causes problems, and I think the Tartaros box magazine might be a touch wider than the Cataphractii drums. Not much in it either way though - I'd say go with whichever style you prefer. Cynicus
And the hands? Do you know if they match regular PA arms properly? I'd get really bothered if they were too obviously mismatched, though I suppose I could always chop them off and put a regular PA arm on them. Lucien Eilam
They're slightly bigger than power armour, but they're easy to cut off and the Chaos power armour arms have hands posed to hold a gun anyway. Durus
You could get some of these. The page has a picture of a 'Steam Knight' so you can see how they would measure up to a SM sized model as well. Subtle Discord
To use terminator Combi-Bolters as-is, I would just cleanly sever the weapon away from the arm at the wrist or where the hand meets the weapon, and then glue/fuse it to the new arm that has also had the original weapon removed (if required); this will take a bit of careful cut work with a #11 blade, a bit of filing cleanup, and some super-thin glue if you want a really clean join. There are other options, however... http://i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j332/SubtleDiscord/WIP%20Thread%20Photos/Champion_06.jpg I was messing around with an Aspiring Champion ages ago and made a pretty good combi-Bolter by just sanding one side of two Chaos Bolters flat (be sure to do opposing sides) and fusing them together. Attached to a Khorne Berzerker arm (they tend to be a bit over-scaled and large) it looks perfectly fine. Again, the Tamiya brand super-thin glue was key to getting all of the bashed bits of this experiment seamlessly fused together; if you don't have some, find a way to get it - square bottle, green cap. It's a blessing when working with GW plastics and styrene in general. You can thank me later.
