32mm bases

I like these from a modeling perspective, and am tempted to pick some up (available straight from GW and eBay).

Would it upset you to play someone with an Army on such bases? Would you not care?

Off the top of my head, so feel free to add, I see the in game advantages include larger footprint for individual squads which allow you to better control objectives, block enemy movement, spread out to minimize casualties from template and blast weapons, and...

Disadvantages would include easier for opponent to disallow your movement, harder to fit behind cover, more difficult squad internal maneuvering (trying to keep your drop pod melta GH within 6 in. of that LR but behind enough of you own squad to survive a round of fire and the like), maybe some CC issues (disordered charges more likely, harder to pile in, keeping models outside of 2 in. from others in base to base), and...

For my wolves, I am not going to bother, nor does it bother me. But for my Blood Angels I will be moving them to the new base size so that when I buy some new kits they all match and my OCD doesn't freak out. I have a lot less BA than I do SW.

Of course not.  All current models on 25mm bases will eventually transition to the new 32mm standard eventually anyway, so you might as well get a head start, especially if you are just now starting out.

I welcome the new bases; they should have done this years ago.  The larger size will be much more stable, and will do a little bit of a better job protecting models in transport cases (depending on your style of foam).

I've read that these bases are optional and were included in one box set at the request of the design team to make the models look more impressive.  This was from natfka.blogspot.com and went on to say that there was no plan to change all the bases over to 32mm.

Either way, I think I'll wait for official word that there is a change before I start switching over, but I can't say that I would care if my opponent had his models on the larger base.

Yeah, that particular Natfka rumor is bunk. You can see right here for yourself that every single new Blood Angels unit in the pre-orders section are on the new 32mm bases.  New Sanguinary Priest, Tactical Squad, Death Company, and Sanguinary Guard....all of them.

Also, I have it on very good authority from a source that I fully trust that every 25mm-based model will eventually transition to the 32s.  And, why wouldn't they?  They aren't going to change the bases for one Faction, and leave the rest as is; that wouldn't make sense at all.

Either way, I think I'll wait for official word that there is a change before I start switching over, but I can't say that I would care if my opponent had his models on the larger base.

I don't blame you for wanting to wait it out, and if you're debating re-basing then you might as well wait and see what happens, as you've already got the models built (and perhaps already painted).  However, if you're just starting out, then I would absolutely go ahead and start using the new bases.  Might as well get ahead of this, rather than have to re-do it all again later.

Best,

I think I'm going to hold out for a bit on making such a drastic change to my wolves. I may start basing heroes, HQ's, and special characters on 32's, just so that they have more room to look impressive. Perhaps my Skyclaws too, but I'll have to think about that for a bit. I'll probably stick to the 25's for my Grey Hunters, Blood Claws, and Long Fangs though.

You are too geographically close to RPR to use that tag line. For the US, It would have to be someone in Maine or Florida. Ideally someone in Australia or even better NZ. Ok, Skeletoro, you are now required to sign off your posts as "Beginning of Line". Unless we can find someone on the board in Kiribati. tongue.png Ok, so I'm a major nerd. And an astronomy professor (time keeping is one of my lectures). What can I say?

I was just doing it to mess with the Rune Priest ( we in the 14th like to agitate em ! ) Plus we all know New York (my home town) Is the Beginning of all Lines

Being a native South Floridian I think this is a fair assessment! As I tell people here in Pennsylvania where I live now, "I'm from so far south it's north again!" I grew up where there were more former New Yorkers than natives! biggrin.png

If I ever get around to re-basing, I think I will just glue the existing base on a 32's, sure the model will get a little taller but some of the bases Im really attached to (due to time and effort).

This will probably be my approach.  The wider bases mean less overhand of close combat weapons and an easier time getting models into position around each other in assaults.  For the models with standard plasic bases, I may snip the rims off the bases.  For the old models on the slotted bases, the slight height boost will offset the models being shorter.

Not as bad as Orlando...How do people honestly believe they have visited the Eiffel Tower by visiting Epcot Centre? biggrin.png

Wait... so you're saying that I haven't been to the Eiffel Tower?

Rofl!

Nope. Nor the plaza in Venice. Nor an Aztec pyramid.

But EPCOT was always my favorite park since it opened in the 80's. Although I miss the original Mission: Space.
