32mm bases

Most of my army is a WIP so even though I would need to buy a minimum of 50 (and more like 100 when I assemble the rest) I am seriously thinking of switching to 32mm (and also putting all power armour infantry characters on 40mn bases, like Krom is)

I started putting all of my characters, from Wolf Guard Pack Leaders on up, on 40mm bases starting about a decade ago.  Example in the avatar.

Wow.  It's hard to argue with that.  Everything there is on the 32mm bases.

Suddenly I'm hit with conflicting feelings of "base envy" and "dear heavenly lord please don't make me rip the bases off of all my minis".

Maybe this is how GW sticks it to all the basing companies?

Hmm yeah, would be tempting to do it for WGPL too.

Then the question presents itself... what about characters in TDA? Worth putting on 50mm bases?

Thunderlord and iron priests on... what's the next one up from 60mm?

Nah, 40mm is plenty big enough for my Character and TDA needs.

Love it :D

I for one am sick of GW changing everything when they're half through with something. Its pissing me off to be honest. They couldn't give BA a proper supliment like the rest of the armies. We can assume that crons won't for one either. And now this base thing is some serious bull:cuss as well. I'm keeping power armor on 20mm bases. This give us more money ploy is just annoying and I feel disrespectful to the fandom. Will I put my Angels Encarmine on the new base size?? Yes. Only because my OCD won't let me have differences with in a particular force. I have waaaaaaaay less angels than I do wolves.

Bladewolf thinks he's funny, bit o just view it as adoration. Hell, he even copied my name and moved to the same state as me!!

Grey Knights didn't get a supplement, so it's not like all 6e and 7e codices have gotten one. And, rumor has it that they're getting planting of additional Detachment/Formation options in the Shield of Baal campaign books (especially the next/final one), so it really shouldn't be a big deal for Blood Angels players.  I consider the availability of supplements for various Factions to be a bonus, but not something we should expect. It's not like GW has made a claim that everybody will get one.

Why do you feel this way? The 25mm bases are small. Even for regular old Grey Hunters and Tactical Marines, they're small. They're especially small for heroes/characters in Power Armour. So, GW is phasing in a fix for that issue with the new 32s, but they're not forcing (or even asking) people to re-base what they've already got. It will be an option for you to do so, however. I can't see this as anything but a good thing, so don't understand the negative perception on this one.

I read 20mm for PA again and again... arent they on 25mm?

Yes, it's 25mm.

I feel this way because I WANT to be running the correct size game-wise, and as a consumer I cannot wrap my head around why they would suddenly change sizes. Could they not do it AFTER all of the codices have been released??!! I don't even understand why people place HQ's and hero's etc on larger bases. This all rotates around my OCD and its governing pull on my desire to keep the sizes in check in relation to the rules. Mostly, they all need to BE THE SAME SIZE!! AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!

I am aware that the GK's did not get a supplement, the point I am trying to make is that why not finish off all the 6th/7th edition codices before making it into the supplement with rules and relics in it. That way all the codices that could have army specific books that would need/warrent one. It's not like Blood Angels and Necrons don't have hundreds of interesting characters and chapters etc to delve into. I know as a BA fan, I am miffed by this, and I know tons of Necron players hoping to see a specific Dynasty supplement that will have to buy a book containing information they do not need. It's another GW money tactic, I know that. Well played GW, well played.

p.s. 25mm sorry I read it above and just typed it out...

Well, really there is no way to do a new release, or make a change without it being 'sudden.' I suppose they could have made an announcement back in the summer along the lines of, "hey, by the way, we're going to start a slow transition to a new 32mm base size for all standard models. We'll probably start doing that sometime this winter with a series of boxed sets that we aren't willing to tell you about yet, though." Even then, the announcement would have been 'sudden' even if the first boxed set to include the new sized bases wouldn't have come for several months.

Could they not do it AFTER all of the codices have been released??!!

Well, there's no such thing as "after all of the codices have been released." As I know you are well aware of, the codices are on a constant turn of releases that has been ongoing since the early 90's, and they never have yet aligned with the Editions of the game. Typically, the edition gets revised well before all of the codices released. Heck, the Space Wolves as just one example have only gotten a book in 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and now 7th editions, missing a revision entirely for both the 4th and 6th versions of the game.

The point to this previous paragraph being that, if they want to make the shift, they have to start somewhere.  Why not now?  Why not with the Blood Angels?  Could they have done it earlier, with the Orks or Grey Knights, or even the Space Wolves?  Sure.  Could they have waited until after the Necrons?  Sure, I suppose.  But why wait until after Necrons, if they're ready to do it now?  And maybe they just weren't ready to make the leap a few months back.  We don't know what impacted the decision on timing, and maybe it was just arbitrary - we'll probably never know.  But, does it really matter?  The transition starts now.

You are right, Val. I am only voicing my distaste for the timing, I suppose. I see the hard bound books as the beginning of the cycle and that means that after Necrons come out all codices will be released. It would of made more sense to me to do it then.

Really my comments are nothing more than a gripe. It isn't like GW has ever done anything to irk us in the past, nor does it need to be stated they will do it in the future. Ooops, there I go, letting the cat out of the bag!!

End of Line

Just cause I'm paranoid when it comes to these things, its perfectly fine to use the 32mm bases on Space Wolves?

I've put off purchasing any further models for a while, and now I've got a better income I wanted to go mad on buying SW's, so I just want to be sure.

I do not see a problem. If there is any trouble, use a reference model. That is how tournaments and the likes handle divergent base sizes or conversions.
