Orsah
I thought i'd start a thread for my ongoing Elysian drop troops project. right now im in an early stage in the project and i have painted 2 models. so fluff and such will come at a later stage. for now all i got to show is a few pictures... http://i966.photobucket.com/albums/ae144/johha004/bild3_zps100e3c8a.jpg http://i966.photobucket.com/albums/ae144/johha004/meltagun_finish_zps91e1e8c1.jpg http://i966.photobucket.com/albums/ae144/johha004/meltagun_finish_2_zps81dbab32.jpg http://i966.photobucket.com/albums/ae144/johha004/meltagun_finish_3_zps0c6bf2bf.jpg I havent decided in a basing theme, but im thinking about a winter city. WarriorFish
"Only" in number, maybe! They look fantastic, excellent work! From the highlighting of the armour to the cloth and guns they look brilliant. They will only look better once based as Elmo said - a winter city theme would look grand. I can't wait to see more :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300256-44th-elysian-drop-troops-wip/#findComment-3885954 Share on other sites

The Pounder
Absolutely outstanding! I think the city bases would compliment your colour scheme perfectly. I particularly like what you've done with the lenses. All in all very realistic. you should be very proud. Vash
Really nice detailed work there. Good high lights on all areas. But my only concern is the base suggestion. winter base might not be what I would go for with that color combination. I am now thinking about classic winter bases with clear white. But if you would make it dirty and gritty sure, then it would work in my eyes. WarriorFish
With a winter city theme it'd be mostly rubble and stuff, the snow could form nice filler and accents to it :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300256-44th-elysian-drop-troops-wip/#findComment-3887002 Share on other sites
Orsah
Thanks! im glad you all like them! If i go with the winter city theme it would be like WarriorFish says, mostly rubble and dirt and a few snow piles here and there. Orsah
So, i have made som progress and finished the bases for the two models i showed in the first post. what do you think of the basing?? http://i966.photobucket.com/albums/ae144/johha004/bases_zps2f645d32.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300256-44th-elysian-drop-troops-wip/#findComment-3968243 Share on other sites
Bjorn Firewalker
Excellent work on the models. I wonder about your unit designation, however- why number it "44th"? (In Chinese and Japanese, the words "four" and "death" have similar pronunciation- four is considered an unlucky number for this reason- so your unit designation can be read as "Dead Death Elysian Drop Troops".) Orsah
Actually, i dont really have a reason for chosing number 44. im from sweden and here numbers dont have a specific meaning. i just thought that it was the 44th regiment recruited from Elysia. (although, they would have been refounded several times) but now that you pointed this out, i might put some thought into the number of the regiment and perhaps change it to something else. Bjorn Firewalker
You might as well have your guardsmen keep the designation the Munitorum assigned it, for fun. "We battle with such wrath and ferocity, even Death can die at our hands!" Vash
Base all in all looks really nice. Nice work and much effort put into them. The snow is at a good amount too, but... everything on your model seems so realistic, and the bases environment too. The snow takes that away for me a bit. Its way to clean :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300256-44th-elysian-drop-troops-wip/#findComment-3968445 Share on other sites

ixzion
These look really stunning! Bra jobbat! Could you share some of your secrets such as what colors you used? The glasses looks especially awesome because they really look like they have reflections! How did you achieve that effect? Kierdale
Excellent work! The goggles/visors: we need to know how you did it. The city bit of the bases look great but the snow looks a bit fluffy to me. You could perhaps add some gloss varnish to the concrete in areas to make it look icy...? WarriorFish
They look great, but as Kier said the snow looks a bit frizzy? Doing some ice would be cool too, but maybe more work that isn't necessary on models that are full of great detail! Father Mehman
Maybe also adding some brown and black to the snow would help with the grittiness . Orsah
Im glad you like them! Regarding the snow I agree with your comments, and I will try to make it less frizzy. I think i also will make some of the snow puddles seem more like slush than actual snow, so there will be both snow and slush on the bases. When i comes to making ice and mixing the snow with mud and dirt, I think it would look really good, but at some point I have to call it good enough and there are a lot of troopers to paint. so i think i'll skip that. I'll make sure to take some pictures of the process when i paint the lenses on the guys im painting now. I might even make a little tutorial for it if youre interested.
