How to handle Hordes at low point games? (Update)

Have a friendly small tourney (1000pts army) ahead but alas not enough time to prepare.

It is very certain that I will face some MEQ but even more horde armies esp. Orks, Nids or AM. As I play GK and AM myself the question is to stick with NSF as usual (Terminators, Interceptors, DKs) or to switch half a squad interceptors and ally in some guardsmen or =][= as Tempestus are not a real option.

But to get this to the meta level - how can we deal with hordes at low point games? Looking at something like that ork formation  3 buggies + 80 boys. Never faced the new nids, but I guess they can swarm the board quite well?

I know that our main answer is Purifiers but at very small games I do not think they are a viable option as the main flaw lies in the delivery system.

Srsly dude, your text size is microscopic. Please post using 12 or 14 size text, its much easier to read.

Secondly, please don't post direct dumps from army list builder programs. They list a whole bunch of irrelevant stuff (like base wargear etc). Write concise unit entries detailing upgrades only, or if you must specific weapons on specific models (ie Terminator w/sword+psycannon). Otherwise, people won't be motivated to give advice, as they give up trying to read the mess those programs produce. I've never used them, they're a waste of time IMO, you can do the same thing just typing by hand with the codex near you for reference.

Thirdly, this post belongs in the Grey Knight army lists subforum, not in the main forum. If you like you can re-make it there, or I can move this thread for you :)

Fixed size, nice flick, move thread if you want (altough I still see semi-list-need-advice-threads in the main board no problem with them?)

And seriously, if Strikesquad, 5 Grey Knights, 1 x Heavy Incinerator is TL:DR maybe one should get a text to speech program/app/whatsever.

We like having threads that say deal with a strategy or tactic, and then a sample army list. But actual 'is this list gud' threads belong in the army list subforum. I can move it or you can re-make.

As some general advice, this is how most people write out army lists on B&C;

HQ:

Unit name, unit upgrades (model by model, or just listed as 3x at the end, whatever you prefer)

(point cost)

Elites:

etcetc

Troops:

etcetc

and so on

I'd also advise what detachments you are using, so people understand (as one example) why you only have 1 Troops in a Nemesis Strikeforce. Detachments are a big part of 40k now, as their bonuses and restrictions do affect a lot how an army is built now. Even the basic CAD has implications (ie it can be a Primary force that contains the Warlord, whereas Allied detachments cannot etc)

-Libby, level 2, Combi flamer

-5 Terminators, Psy-Cannon, 2 Nemesis Deamon Hammers

-2 Dreadknights, Psy-Cannon, Heavy Incinerator, Nemesis Great Sword

-Stormraven, Assault Cannon, Multi Melta, Hurricane Bolters

That should deal with a swarm rather well. Exactly 1k points

Sure the raven has some advantages, like being difficult to hit and can't be tied up in melee but on the other side it is one less scoring unit, less bolter / flamer shots than the equivalent in bodies (interceptor, terminator whatever) and it can't use rites of teleportation and comes in late with bad luck.

Who gives a flying saucer about scoring? We're Grey Knights. We teleport in, we ruthlessly purge the enemy before they think they'd be fighting, and we either table or ruin them to the point of defeat. Ignore 'Objective Secured', it might as well not exist as a rule.

Our infantry will never compare to the dakka a Raven puts out. Even with psybolts gone, its a scary gunship for ground infantry, especially chaff (hordes we traditionally have issues with, because we never have enough shots and in melee we're at risk of being bogged down). Plus Assault Ramp, which Purifiers in particular love.
