tylerw
Hey folks, I'm playing in a campaign in January. It is a 3v3 situation, where each teammate plays vs an opposing team's player, but the games are played ~ the same time, barring schedule conflicts. There will be (at least for week one) one player playing City of Death, one player playing MoW, and one playing EW. Superheavies are not allowed for this. I'm planning on a list like this, roughly, and I feel okay playing it on either MoW or EW. I will attempt to have a teammate cover the CoD, as I've never played that mission type, but if you have suggestions/tips for it, let me know! Our opponents are dem orkis, Nids, and Tau. I feel like the whopping 5 pods I have may be a bit of a liability if Tau is loaded up on intercepter, but barring that, are probably fine, as it will help get my guys into CC range, plus the DW ML hopefully will break up their nasty overwatch, and seem great vs the potential horde blobs of the other two possible enemy armies. I also really like Pod-heavy armies, both for the "unfairness" of dropping meltas or whatever on important parts of an opponent's army and for the ability to use the pods as a combination of cover, threats to hordes, and taking objectives/linebreaker. I'll list other options at the end. I'm mostly interested in if you notice a particular hole in the army - for example, as-is, I don't see that I'm GREAT against monstrous creatures, but I don't feel awful either. Similarly, I'm not hugely anti-armor or anti-horde, but I'm probably fine against all but the most extreme situations. Also, does this list seem miserable to play against? I want it to be a competitive list, but I hope it's not appearing to be so miserable that my friends will hate it. HQs Ulrik (warlord) Wolf Lord with Frost Sword and Melta Bombs ElitesDreadnought with Drop Pod, DW ML Dreadnought (Helfrost Cannon) with Drop Pod, DW ML (I'd go with a 2nd MM here, but for some reason I don't have a second MM arm. I could chop one off of a LF, but eh, the cannon is pretty fun. Would the Ass Cannon be a better fit here?) 5 Wolf Scouts w/ sniper rifles and camo cloaks (fun, plus monstrous creature threats) Troops 10 GH with 2 Meltas, WGPL with combi-melta, Drop Pod DW ML (Obviously a suicide pod that is hopefully killing an important thing and then tying up another unit.) 5 GH with 1 plasma gun, WGPL with combi-plas (and Ulrik probably rides in this pod), Drop Pod 5 BC with Drop Pod (Wolf Lord is planning to ride in this pod) 5 GH in a Rhino (WL can ride here if I really need, to avoid making him sit on his butt until his T3 assault, possibly, while being a much bigger threat to any units my opponent might send after objectives, etc) FALand Speeder with Flamer/Melta Stormwolf with Heavy Bolters. HSPredator - autocannon with 2 lascannon sponsons Predator - dakkadakka Vindicator Stuff I'm not using, but have the models for:TDA another Dreadnought Bikers TWC 1 more Rhino, 2 more Razorbacks LRR 5man jump pack unit 2 more land speeders (one MM/Flamer, one with Typhoon ML) Fenrisian Wolves/Cyberwolf another dakka predator vanilla BC/GH/WG models I certainly have figures to support the rather fun Biker/TWC style of army, but I honestly have a really hard time actually playing that when I could just be dropping pods of doom and death. I'm most open to cutting the FA stuff, but I figured if there are flying Nids, the Stormwolf is a solid answer. I plan to use the formation rule to make it appear on T2 each game. tylerw
Whoops, I meant to put this in the army list section, Mods could you move it? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300328-first-run-at-1850-points/#findComment-3887870 Share on other sites
Frater Cornelius
I do not see the point in 5BC in pod. Lord can ride with GH if he really wants to pod. I would find another pod somewhere and use the 5 BC to get Stormwolf into Troops (dedicated transport). Possibly drop the 5GH Rhino and stick them in a pod as well. I also do not see the Lord doing much. At least give him a Runic Armour for a 2+ save for tanking. He feels a bit naked. Other than that, looks balanced enough ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300328-first-run-at-1850-points/#findComment-3887886 Share on other sites

I guess having OBSEC on the flyer is nice, but it seemed more like a luxury when I really just want it to shoot stuff. DanPesci
Id be tempted to: - have the 5 man bloodclaw pack take the stormwolf as a dedicated transport, thereby giving you a super scoring stormwolf - give the stormwolf multimeltas - you have enough dakka on the preds, but little anti-armour bar the melta squad and vindicator - both of which will be prime targets - the drop pod the bloodclaws were in - put the 5 man grey hunter pack in here, get rid of the rhino, and try get this pack up in numbers to provide a better squad for the wolf lord to be in. - Possibly drop the wolf lord, or downgrade to a WGBL, to free up some more points to add to your shooting potential from the pods. With him not being able to charge from a pod (whcih is guaranteed to come on turn 2), he may not get into combat until turn 3,4 possibly even 5 (or are you playing wolves unleashed? - Ulric is a goodchoice for dropping shooty pods, but maybe put a locator beacon on one, so then all your pods after this can drop nearby, and be within ulrics pref. enemy bubble. Just my tuppence anyway! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300328-first-run-at-1850-points/#findComment-3887896 Share on other sites
Z00Z
Same with the gh unit mentioned above. Also, id consider typhoon pattern speeder instead of suicide mm. It will increase your dakka plus you can park it behind a vindi / pred, still have los but get a cover save+jink. If someone arrives behind you, you protecting vindi or preds rear with a cover save. Donkalleone
I would drop the WL HQ and go for Ulrik as WL with Strategic trait.Further Drop the BC Dp and Gh Rhino and the Rest mentioned above. With Ulrik in tow i would like to see a PAWG plasma Drop or Plascannon in Dreads. And ObjecSec in StormWolf means u have a farly fast capper with good range (weapons). EDIT fixed the cruelty my autocorrect did to that post Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300328-first-run-at-1850-points/#findComment-3888966 Share on other sites
