lionofjudah
The 'Iron Fists'- 17th cohort of the 7th company of the VII legion. We spent the greater part of the 182nd expedition in concert with the 27th clan of the Storm Walkers, (who would become the Iron Hands) 3rd company. These men of 2 legions bled for the emperor bringing the light of reunification to the stars. The warriors developed a unique fighting style amongst their brother legions. By encompassing the dedication to the perfection of the martial bolter and sword drill and blending that with a stoic determination in the face of conflict and dispassionate view of their altered humanities weakness, the Fists and Hands brought an asymmetrical warfare to those planets which chose to not accept their admittance to the imperium. Decades of travel far afield from the light of terra wrought many changes in the armor and armorment of each legions. Bionic replacement of limbs lost in conflict became commonplace badges of honor and courage for the men of the VIIth legion. Their is a propensity to siege and line warfare in the 17th/7th/VII and as such the Iron Fists field a large number of infantry forces in their engagements. The imperial forces traveling with the VIIth include several divisions under the command of General Maurice de Saxe as well as a brigade sized force tagmeta under the purview of Magos Li'isia/100010101000101110. At the start of the Heresy the combined fleets of the 182nd expedition were responding to a call for assistance from the 203rd expedition and fell in ambush to the traitors contained within. The Iron Hands fleet was lost almost to a man as the Imperial Fists fleet was horrendously battered. The ships of man were decimated and it was a small flotilla which managed to breach the edge of the Uritrax system. Months went by as the ships of the VIIth fled, ambushed and chased the ships of their brothers harassing them. All the while, the fleet of the VIIth was being whittled down as the heretics would launch boarding actions against their slower vessels and furious fire fights would ensue aboard those vessels. The training of the VIIth with their Storm Walker brethren held fast and the warriors of the VIIth made war upon the traitors as men resigned to sell their lives to stop their former brethren. As they sped towards their last assigned rendezvous they encountered a splintered fleet of loyalist Dusk Raiders and Iron Warriors in the Disperian system. Amidst a parlay aboard the Warriors flagship, the 'Wrath of Ixperia,' the traitor fleet appeared at the edge of the system and came at the combined fleet at full speed. The battle that followed was an apocalyptic one, dozens of loyalist and traitor vessels destroyed in mass as they entered the close environs of space borne combat. The 'Wrath' was destroyed when it was rammed fore and mid ship by traitor 'fireships'. The explosion of the capital ship broke the attackers spirit as the last of their undamaged vessels disappeared in the roiling plasma. The remaining ships of the VIIth exited the Disperian system and continued unharried as they limped back to Terra. Weeks of increasingly concerning vox traffic greeted them as they continued into the galactic core, tales of the Heresy giving a glimpse to the madness of Horus' treachery. When word of the Istavaan tragedies reached them the warriors of the Dusk Raider and Iron Warrior forces asked for and were granted a vessel to make war upon their traitorous brethren and atone for the sins of their fathers. The men of the VIIth were resolute to make their way to their primarch on terra and prepare for the defense of their homeworld. The remaining time in flight to Terra became increasingly desperate as more systems capitulated to the Warmaster. As their ships broached the monitor belts of the Sol system they were engaged by renegade cruisers intent upon stopping reinforcements of Terra. The smaller corvettes destroyed the last escort ships of the 182nd expedition as the remaining vessels bled and vented the last of their power and fluids to the void. Exhausted and with their goal in sight the VIIth broke the back of their attackers and made their way past the battle for Mars and onward to Terra. The 'Iron Fists' were welcomed back to the VIIth and prepared for the battle for Terra, the bonds of brotherhood with their loyalist legions cemented by the blood of the fallen. Their bodies a blend of flesh and machine, their spirits hollow, the fists strong and their armor displaying the open hand of the Gorgon and the closed hand of Dorn to honor their blood oath at vengeance. The fists fight side by side with their mechanicum allies as well as the remaining men of the Imperial army attached to the 182nd. As the battle for terra (painting) continues, I will be including BA and WS elements in my 30k army... Raktra
http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298232-the-berserkers-of-uran-aka-if-i-did-an-expunged-legion/General idea - the Berserkers were the Legion that went in and broke someone. Not the wild murder of the World Eaters, the slow bleed of the Night Lords or the noble assault of the Wolves/ Blood Angels, the ones who would break both your arms instead of saying hello and hold your face against an angle grinder until you'd said you surrender a hundred times.gits, basically. GhostMalone
Well as the 14 15 & 16 are here, The XIVth are on the persephone we are known as the infernal blade we are lead by Dalkeith and trained by jariyah. We have our high command known as the heads of Cerberus were trench warfare ZM assault specialists relying on rotor cannons melta and plasma to clear confined spaces. Xin Ceithan
With Conquest out, I have my head full of ideas. Away from those huge set piece battles at Istvan and Terra and more to /more tabletop viable) forces. So... I love the "Plaque Ship"/ Terror Raider idea from Conquest. I picture bombed out ruins, MadMax / Fallout / Wasteland style enviroment, S.T.A.L.K.E,R, type breathng masks. Ragged coats and cloaks. Armoured Shapes moving through chemical fog. Rebreather noises, Great excuse for a Death Guard Army or a very specialized Iron Warrior Force I have always pictured my 21st Company of the VIIth, the "Wraithborn" as a raiding force, They begin the Great Crusade and the Heresy more as a specialized taskforce much like a US Marine Corps SOC taskgroup in organisation (I not in mental outlook :) ). Based around a battlebarge, they excel in boarding actions and raiding / swift strikes. After Istvaan they become more commerce raiders and terror ship behind enemy lines, They are going from the early-crusade-mostly-terran-riddick-style-dirty-dozen to dark eldaresque, john mlakovitch-as-blackbeard and get worse from there.. So I am working up killteam and Zone mortlis forces here, though the Rite War and Terror Squad focus does nicely here, A Heresy era BFG force would be great My Alpha Legion are more fluid. The Obsidian Coil operates in cells around smaller task force groups coordinated by astropath and as the heresy progresses more and more esoteric means. While they begin campaigns on a special forces and black ops level and establish local mortal cells, the carry out surgical strikes, Terminator Assaults and the odd major armoured and arial assault. They keep the pragmatic outlook and use whatever means neccessary as in Abnett`s Legion. I see the Rite of War as an excellent means to represent highly specialized gear and sections among the Coils and less as simply"stolen units" (it also gives me a great excuse to by fancy Non-AL models), As the Heresy progresses and even the resources the AL has piled up dwindle i imagine the Coils becoming more competive among themselves to see who can achieve objectives with fewer resources (like Mechwarrior Clans bidding). The more removed from a unified commad structure they come, the more will the pathological need to accomplish things in clever , even flamboyant ways will become. Simpy winning will no longer be enough, it has to be smart and make other AL take notice -"Sure we could just drop an asteroid on the target..but why not drop one of their orbital defence platforms on their heads--no, let`s see if we make one their defence platforms drop onto the target by making believe it is the only way to stop us,,,," i will never build an Word Bearers Amy as it would be a lifetime achievement given my painting speed. That doesn`t mean I do not have a theme in my head for one^^ The Chapter of the Onyxian Flame is retribution. It is ranks after ranks of red armoured Astartes flying banners of devotion to the eightfold path. It is fire from heaven by massed artillery and amroured spearheads. It is jetpack launched fury into the middle of imperial holdings. These are zealots but they are not "believers". They have no need for belief or faith. They have seen the gods. They know the truth. The imperial truth is a lie. Worse, it is a lie that threatens the survival of humanity. Lorgar has be shown the way to mankinds survival- humanity must ascend and become one with the primordial truth or perish like the eldar did. The Onyxian Flame will cleanse the lies of the Emperor from the galaxy and oopen the eyes of mankind to the truth. A harsh, pitiles truth but it is their duty as Astartes. And they channel their desparation into their hate towards the Emperor and his blind followers... I love the Mechanicum models. From Conquest`s little trinket of forces fighting an amalgam jconography of the Iron Hands and the Sons Of Horus I may have found my inspiraion for a workable heresy army... centered among survivors of the massacre who are so traumatized that they follow their lost primarch`s creed to it`s logical cnclusion. Ferrus was slain. So Ferrus was weak. The have become stronger, The Warmasters forces beat them, thus they know the path to greater strength. They rebuild themselves and discard their weakling fleshy remains supported by the Dark Mechanicum around a cold burning rage towards their weakling Primarch and his uncaring father who left them to die. They rise from the black sands of Istvaan, biomechanical, cybernetic revenants driven by fusionized hate,,,, (Also,,Knights! what`s not to love!)
