dusara217
When I first became interested in 40k, I was little over-zealous and decided to purchase a Blood Angels Battleforce as well as a squad of Tactical Marines and a squad of Sanguinary Guard with my Christmas money (last year). Then, I read the Space Wolves codex (5th ed) and became hooked on the Wolves. Then, I proceeded to plan out an army that would require me to buy at least another $150 worth of models. I proceeded to buy Drop Pod and a full squad of Grey Hunters (already put together by some guy on ebay). I guess my question is, should I just convert my models to a Legion? And if so, what Legion should I convert to? (give me like two or three candidates, please) My stuff is as follows: - 1 Squad of Sanguinary Guard - 2 Squads of Assault Marines - 2 Squads of Tac Marines (including Grey Hunters) -1 Squad of Death Company - 1 Rhino - 1 Drop Pod So what do you guys think I should do? I"m already kind of leaning towards Blood Angels, because Sanguinius is my favorite Primarch and is a total beast in CQC according to fluff, which should fit well with my current amount of CQC units. Slips
Sanguinary Guard can technically be run as Sanguinary Guard since they were around with Sanguinius; caveat is that they don't have rules yet and wouldn't have access to Death Masks (which would actually be quite powerful vs. Legions because we don't have ATSKNF) since that only came into play after Sanguinius died. Maybe you could convince the people you play with to use their wargear with maybe a slight increase and use Generic Legion Rules (or an equivalent) to replace the loss of Chapter Tactics, etc. 2 Squads of Assault Marines: So, 10 bodies? Thats a Single 30k Assault Marine Squad; 250 points before upgrades. Yeah... They can be used for compulsory troops, however. 2 Squads of Tac Marines: 2 5 man squads or 2 10 man squads? A base 10 man squad is 150. A 20 man is 250 but reduces your transport options. Death Company: You could try running them in the same way that I described the Sanguinary Guard but have them be penitent marines instead since the DC didn't exist yet, back then. Rhino and Drop Pod. You'd need more than one of either, thats for sure. Mostly due to the sheer amount of firepower that can be brought to bear in a 30k list; especially in the 2k+ range. Luckily for you, if you choose a Legion that doesn't have rules out for them yet you get to chose from a list. Furious Charge is among them and, guess what, thats the new BA CT for 40k. If you want to convert the models to a Legion and keep it consistent with the fluff, you may have some trouble since that would mean no Mk VII/VIII Power Armor/Helmets. You can get away with Arms, shoulders and Legs but torsos and helms will stick out like sore thumbs. Backpacks are on a person per person basis. Ornamentation would have to exclude anything resembling the Crux Terminatus since it doesn't exist yet. Though honestly, if the peeps your playing with are cool with you using GW plastics to represent a Legion Force, then do it; save yourself heaps of Cash. List wise, consider getting: -a Storm Eagle; 20 man transport flyer that has decent dakka. With the Angels Wrath RoW it can be used to transport 20 man Tac Blobs. -Fire Raptor is a Solid investment; very good for its price point, imo. -Get an HQ of some kind; Consuls are a good starting point. Unless your absolutely going to use a RoW don't pick up a Preator; at least not yet. And if it isn't apparent yet, I'm gunning for the Blood Angels :p Sadly, Librarians, Masters of Signal and Primus Medicae can't be taken as compulsory HQs on top of Moritats being ineligible. -Either buy 10 more Assault Marines or 20 more Tac Marines to fill your troops slots. The above ideas about SG and DC could be used to fill out elites. -If you go for Tac Blobs, get apothecaries. They really help with the overall survivability of the squad. -Only way to Attach Apothecaries to Assault Marines (or anything with a Jump pack, really) would be to use a Primus Medicae - taking up an HQ slot. -Rapier Batteries are a good form of Artillery if you don't go Airforce. -Contemptors. They look great and have a wide array of gear. Contemptor-Mortis aren't as effective as before but they're still a good source of Anti-Air. -Jetbikes. Solid unit if expensive in every sense of the word. An HQ on one essentially turns into a very fast TEQ unit with T5. -Seekers. Mix between Sternguard and Scouts. Great combi-weapon platform. Especially expensive unit hunting when outfitting a squad of 10 with Combi-Plas. -Recon Marines. Better scouts in power armor. Can swap PA for Scout Armor to gain infiltrate and move through cover. The above and this squad work well with a Vigilator Consul though he is much more flexible than is immediately apparent. -If you haven't already (and I don't know why I forgot to mention it) get the Two Red Books for all the Rules. The Tomes are Fluff Books if none of the legions within interest you just get the former two. -Terminator Squads. A mix of Tactical and Assault Terminators in a single unit; cheaper than their 40k counterpart with a wider array of gear. -Tactical Veteran Squad. More or less 40k Tac Squads with better BS, iirc but have better and wider wargear options. -Land Raider Spartan. You know, cuz having a 25 capacity nigh-unkillable super-land raider is never a bad thing. Especially useful for carrying around 20 man blobs + HQs or 10 man terminator blobs + Hqs around. These are the units I can readily recommend. I may have missed a few and if theres a unit that I didn't cover feel free to ask and I can tell you why I didn't / if I forgot to. Sparika
It could be difficult to mix the ornate style of BA with the pelts of the space wolves. But don't forget that you can have access to allies. 1) Blood Angels army with an allied squad of Space Wolves despoilers 2) Space wolves pack with allied BA (Death co as standard ornate BA assault squad, Sanguinary guard as sanguinary guard, waiting for rules) But also 3) White scars, furs, assault and tactical marines. Still a bit difficult to fit death and sanguinary guard but you could do as I said (allied). Plus Scars an Angels were defending Terra together. So fluffy. :) Alternatively go for BA and allie with Scars instead of Wolves. Traitor alternative 4) Replace BA by Emperor Children. Sanguinary guard as palatine blade? I don't know if they have access to jump pack. 5) Wolves pelts could be decoration for Sons of Horus (ex Luna Wolves) Sanguinius IS the best primarch. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300622-conversions/#findComment-3893785 Share on other sites
Marshal Rohr
Furs look great when used with White Scars. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300622-conversions/#findComment-3893913 Share on other sites
Atia
amentation would have to exclude anything resembling the Crux Terminatus since it doesn't exist yet. the symbol itself exists (that's just a veteran crux), it just doesn't have the fragment of the emperors armour in it. Also Blood Angels are artificers, so i see no problem with the use of Crux' for HH Blood Angels :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300622-conversions/#findComment-3893930 Share on other sites
