Gothical
I have a query about the Honour or Death rule that Company Champions and Chapter Champions have in Codex: Space Marines, and what happens when you have other Characters in the unit. The rule states that "A model with this special rule must always issue and accept a challenge whenever possible." Can I issue/accept challenges with another character in the unit, or does it have to be the Champion? To elaborate, if the unit contains another character, for example a Captain, can you first issue/accept a challenge with the Captain, resulting in the Company Champion not able to because of the "whenever possible" requirement and the rule that only one challenge can take place in a single combat at any time; or does the "always issue and accept" requirement overrule any choice you have in the matter when it comes to challenging with other characters? Lucien Eilam
It has to be the Champion. If you're able to issue or accept with any character, it's possible to issue or accept with the Champion, and he must do so. Kristoff
The Emperor's Champion would supercede that I believe, but no one else. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300672-honour-or-death-question/#findComment-3894638 Share on other sites
Leonaides
Is the wording for chaos characters different? Also, his rule would be negated if he joined an existing combat with an ongoing combat. Lucien Eilam
Is the wording for chaos characters different? It's a different rule, but as far as having to issue/accept goes, it has exactly the same effect. The major difference with Chaos is practically every character in the list (except Daemon Princes) has the rule, so while you must issue/accept, you generally have complete freedom of choice which character it is. Also, his rule would be negated if he joined an existing combat with an ongoing combat. Assuming you meant ongoing challenge, yes. Only one challenge per combat so, if there's already one happening when he charges, it's not possible to issue/accept. The rule doesn't require you to attempt a Glorious Intervention. Jolemai
Apparently you can get around this rule via placement of the model in combat? i.e if you are further than 2" away from a suitable target then you can't issue a challenge? Lucien Eilam
Yeah, it only comes into play if the Champion is eligible to issue/accept a Challenge. The model has to be engaged (with any enemy model involved in the combat - it doesn't have to be another character) at the start of the fight sub-phase to be eligible for Challenges, so you could conga the unit in, Challenge with a character, and the Champion can pile in later.
