Ask him to find where Drop Pods are different from every other vehicle.

Edit: Battle Bros says units can embark on friendly vehicles. Drop Pods are a friendly vehicle. If a transport is not dedicated, a unit may start embarked on it. Drop Pod FA options are not dedicated.

"Transport capacity: ...A Transport may carry a single Infantry unit and/or any number of Independent Characters (as long as they are also Infantry), up to a total number of models equal to the vehicles Transport Capacity:

pg. 80, 40k main rulebook

"Dedicated transports: Sometimes a unit entry will include a transport option...other vehicles may also have a Transport Capacity, but they are chosen seperately as normal, have a role and occupy a force organisation chart slot of their own."

pg. 82, 40k main rulebook

"Battle Brothers:

- Can benefit from the Warlord trait of a Warlord that is a Battle Brother.

- Can be joined by an Independent Character who is a Battle Brother.

...

- Can embark on each other's Transport vehicles"

pg. 127, 40k main rulebook

"Combined Reserve Units: During deployment...you must specify if any units in Reserve are embarked upon any Transport vehicles in Reserve, in which case they will arrive together"

pg. 135, 40k main rulebook

Your friend is either ignorant or trying to decieve you.
