Ulrik_Ironfist
I love my troops choices. I have 37 grey hunters, and 20 blood claws. When you break down the points, you can take a bare bones wolf guard squad (BP/CS, or BG/BP) for the same cost as a Grey Hunter squad with CCW and 2 MG. Upgraded GH cost 198 pts (WGPL W/CM & BP, 9 CCW's, 2 MG). The assault oriented GH do close combat just as well as wolf guard (outside CoF). In addition the GH can take the Wolf standard, at their most expensive GH come out to 283 pts, whereas wolf guard can come out to over 600 pts. GH are quite versatile, and are a superior tactical choice over wolf guard. PAWG are fun sometimes, but I really see GH as the better option. Bloodclaws are often overlooked, due to their WS/BS 3. I played Tau for a good while before picking up space wolves, so I'm used to the BS3 shooting. Add a rune priest to the blood claws, with prescience, and they get to re-roll failed to hit rolls, which negates their lower WS/BS to a degree. Not to mention they throw down 4 attacks per model on first turn of combat, so they are already hitting a lot statistically. Blood Claws can make an excellent tarpit. My thought is to put them and a WP (Armour of Russ, Black Death, and the Wulfen Stone) in a LRC and run them forward. That would be a heck of a close combat quagmire. Min squads of BC could also work, as a good threat, and they have a place. It's all in how you want to build your list. skeletoro
WS 3 will generally hit on 4s anyway. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300731-making-troops-awesome/page/2/#findComment-3896529 Share on other sites
Freman Bloodglaive
Blood Claws being as cheap as they are they are a good option for crewing a Razorback, although of course armour 11 vehicles with 3 HP don't last particularly long in 7th. Cain21
Too bad BA lost ASM troops, but hey, someone's gotta sell that new tacs kit :D $$$, the ultimate GW balancing and playstyle decider. Also works for Forgeworld and their recent decision about Sicarians, eh.More broken up about the lack of Cents  they'd have made perfect allies otherwise. Did fw change something about the sicarian I have missed recently? Nadir
Now you can have a lot of them IF you have at last one Rune Priest (no saga of the bear needed). Cain21
Ah yeah, I am just sad they decreased side and rear armour by 1. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300731-making-troops-awesome/page/2/#findComment-3897559 Share on other sites
Frater Cornelius
Well, if you consider that even the BAAAAAAAEEEEEEEENBLAAAAAAAADEEEEEEEEEEEEEE only has side 13 and rear 12 and that only the Land Raider has four HP, I think that 13/12/12 4HP is good enough for a 135 points tank, especially with its main gun being that awesome. Ulrik_Ironfist
It's a "tax" because you have to take them in order to get the command benefits of the CAD, while you fill your other slots with all the toys you want to bring. Recently, I've been going with more of a boys before toys approach to list building, that and infantry works with the theme of my army (heavy emphasis on deep strike and drop pods, so lots of infantry and dreads). So I agree, it's not a "tax". Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300731-making-troops-awesome/page/2/#findComment-3899243 Share on other sites
