Zedrenael
So with all the new formations coming out I got to say that I am getting really giddy about it all. In just 880 points you can take the Archangels Sanguine Wing with 400 points of free upgrades. And then another 1050 you can take the Angel's Fury Spearhead formation. That would come out to 1930 without upgrades on four Stormravens, 3 Obj Secured Tactical Squads, 2 VV with all power weapons, and a Sternguard squad with 10 combi weapons. You would just need to take someone that will get you a reroll on the reserve roll to make sure that you get the Spearhead turn 1 so you don't auto lose. This then gives you opportunity to assault out of deep strike with the VV and maybe take some other things to help soften up the opponent. I don't know..... The Blood Angels may have not gotten as much love as people would have liked in the codex but the formations are where it is at now.
girot
Indeed! These formations really make up for the flavor and utility that was seemingly lost in the codex update. It would seem to me that because of the detachment/formation mechanic GW can bring the Blood Angels more in line with the fluff AND allow us to add in that BA flare we've grown to love on an "as needed" basis. This actually makes a heck of a lot of sense.
SonOfThunder
Spearhead already gets a reroll as part of its rules ;)
Zedrenael
Well then I need to figure out the best army list for these two formations.
Tiger9gamer
Which one is the vanguard one again? I may use it for a count as RG force sometime
Zedrenael
It would be the archangels sanguine wing

If so that's a shame as a Damocles command rhino is 75 making it 5 points short of fitting it in a 2k list 2+ with a reroll turn one would have been worth it I think. Xenith
Communications array with a aegis line? Thats outside force org and probably about 60pts?
Pascalnz
fortifications are still part of force orgs...make sure the detachment you use has a slot available for them
Xenith
Well, yea, but they dont take up a slot that units from the BA codex would be taking like the damocles would. Karlaen gets you a reroll.
InquisitorBlack
The formation already gets a re-roll, guys. Cronhour mentioned the Damocles because its +1 to reserve rolls stacks and changes the failure rate from 11% to under 3%.
Shaezus
The Damocles doesn't take up an FOC slot.
Shaezus
Also units DSing close to it (12" I think) do not scatter, which makes it useful for emergency defensive drops. Don't forget that S10 AP1 large blast barrage either, which uses reduced scatter if the Damocles has LOS.
Cronhour
What they said, you already get a reroll but i've failed 3+ rerolls often enough before, 2+ makes it quite rare. I can see me using this formation for fun games but its too reliant on the ravens coming turn 1 to be competative.
Father Mapple
I don't know. Most tournaments are 5 or 6 games. Then you have almost and exactly 50 percent chance of auto losing at least 1 game. In a rogue trader type, you only have a 1 in 3 chance. If the auto lose comes on the finals, that's a good way to get 3rd place or so. Lol
