1000pts vs Eldar wraiths....what would you do?

I have a game coming up and want to take my wolves out for a spin...the problem is, what do I take to be competitive?

We're playing 1000pts and my opponent will probably have a core of their force made up of:

Farseer

Guardian Squad

Dire Avengers (probably 5)

Wraithknight

Wraithlord

Fire Prism

So, looking through our dex, I thought I'd go for something equally small and fun...

HQ - WGBL with SS & Frost Axe...to ride in a pod with...

7GHs (MG, 7x CCWs)

Murderfang in a pod

3x TWC w. 3x SS & 2x WC, 1x TH

and the icing on the cake...

Knight Errant!

So, a small, well armed, assault force that can take on anything he throws at me in CC (except the wraithknight that will need the Errant or TWC to have a go at it).

So, that's what I;m thinking.  How would you tackle this Eldar raiding force?  What would you take to a 1000pt limit?

I like your list. I would go easy on the gear. Take more boys instead. On the TWC get 2 SS and 1 Fist. Drop the two Claws. You also do not need CCW on GH. Drop those.

With those extra points you should be able to put the WGBL on a Thunderwolf and get as many more GH as you can fit in.

Should be fun.  Is your original list the 1000 poonts?  I agrre with Imm that you probably don't need the close combat weapons on the GH.  Anything in combat that you can beat with them you don't need the CCWs.  Against their big stuff you will use your krak grenades if you are unfortunate enough to get into close combat with them.  But your knight should be able to handle that stuff.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I (stupidly) hadn't thought about a 3rd pod - will defo try and fit one in there.

As a thought - what would you think of swapping out the GHs for Blood Claws?  My thoughts are that they are just as durable and, with them arriving in a pod, they can cause more damage in CC (the extra attacks will more than make up for their lower WS).  I know there is a bigger risk of them missing in shooting with their BS3, but ultimately it could go so save even more points.

Immer - why drop the hammer and replace with a fist?  I'm thinking that, against a Wraithlord / knight, the ability to drop him down to I1 with concussive will be worth it's weight in gold...or not?

Cheers,

I really like the idea of pod'd blood claws, in this instance I don't know if they're necessary, you have some pretty good and stout CC units on the table, I think GHs are the better bet for a little more flexibility. I definitely agree that if you can fit 3 pods take em, it's a lot of nastiness in your opponents face he may not be ready for right off the bat.

Also, think about putting your WGBL on a TWM, you can do that and drop 2 of the SS from the TWC unit, I don't think you need that many.

BC cannot assault the turn they pod in unless I'm missing something in the codex. You'll have to rely on their pistols and armor to keep them alive until the next turn so they can assault. That gives those sneaky Eldar time to tuck tail and run to where they feel safe and shoot you down. I'd rather have the naked GH (except for a melta or two of course) with better BS and, possibly, more firepower turn 1.

I'm with Immer too, boys before toys. The more bodies you have, the more firepower/attacks you'll get on those xenos filth. TWM for the WGBL. Drop the WC and a SS for the TWC in lieu of pistols. Try to add in 3 more GH for the extra melta, but drop the CCW. If you have an extra 15pts and FW rules are allowed, I'd go with a Lucius DP for Murderface. It will allow him to assault the turn he drops in.
