maverik_girl
I don't think the title is appropriate. It's more like losing inspiration and motivation. Go grim or go home! If you didn't have love for the sons of Russ you wouldn't still be here. Give it time, once a wolf always a wolf. When you are ready it will come to you like a sudden storm. You can't force genius or greatness. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300777-losing-love-for-my-wolves/page/2/#findComment-3897170 Share on other sites
Ulrik_Ironfist
I've had Vanilla Marines and Dark Eldar (back in the heady days of 3rd edition), Dark Angels, Tau, Eldar, Space Wolves, and Necrons, and Orks. I got out of the hobby and got rid of my Vanilla Marines and my Dark Eldar (big mistake). When I got back in, I got Dark Vengeance at the Tail end of 6th edition, and quickly decided that they were not going to cut it, Too much synergy required to make them worthwhile, and they weren't mobile enough. So I got Tau, and loved them. I still like my Tau, and I built them up, but no one wants to play against them, because they're "cheesy, dirty fish people" (I run a mobile battlesuit list with fire warriors for objective camping, kroot for tarpitting, piranhas for tank hunting, Riptides for firepower, and a razorshark flying top cover). Now, maybe I run a really cheesy list, and dirty tactics, but I have very few markerlights to fear (I have no pathfinders), and I don't have much that ignores cover (I have no broadsides), just jet pack shenanigans. I got stormclaw soon after that, deciding that I'd like to do space wolves, or orks, and I needed a 7th ed rule book (it was a better deal than the $85 set). I got Eldar for an escalation league, that was fun, but they again required too much synergy to work well, and I decided to trade for Necrons. Now, I do like necrons but I don't get to play them much, because of their previous owner. He made a reputation for them, and they're hard to beat (It's a silver tide, with the scary toys. I run them that way). So Space Wolves are the only Army I have that people will play against. Because they handicap me by going low points, meaning I have to be more conservative in what I take. I'm shy two drop pods for the lists I want to play for space wolves, and as such, It's somewhat limiting. None the less, I feel your pain, and I'll finish my wolves for now, and then move on to one of my other armies for a while. That's all you can do, take a break, do something different for a bit. Kasper_Hawser
I've never played thunderwolf spam so I don't know the feeling of such an army, but as a beginner army in 2014, after trying a lot of fluffy lists that kept getting smash, I find myself drawn back to the classic combo of Grey Hunters, Long Fangs and Rune Priests, with a tooled up Wolf Guard Battle Leader for good measure. At first I used big fat units like wolf lords, Iron Priest on Thunderwolf, Land Raiders and Predators but I kept on getting smashed. So I decided to stick to 1500 point battle and try to train myself within that limit. Now I find that the old rule boys over toys truly is awesome. You might think it is Grey Hunter Spam and cheesy, but seriously, as great as GH is, they're nowhere near as cheesy in close combat unless you are Tau, in which case it would be bashing baby seals. In most of my games, although my Grey Hunters performed very well, it wasn't like I outnumbered my foes, but it is mind boggling how many attacks we get with the BP + CCW combo along with counter attack and Wolf Banner. And now I've found my favourite weapon: WHIRLWIND! My God, that little fragile artillery proved so useful even against Marine armies, with the exception of an all Terminator force. With the Whirlwind behind my core Rhino/Razorback troop forces and the Long Fangs covering my backfield, I was truly free to go forward to smash the enemy without fear of deepstrikers or any other shenanigans. And with the Whirlwind, I even for once put preasure on him with my constant pie plates. So my advice? Try a Rhino/Razorback force, it's more resilient than you think unless your opponent also spams Devastators. For me, I have 4 HQs, 1 WGBL and 3 RP. WGBL and RP goes into one Rhino, 1 RP goes into another Razorback with melta squad, and 1 RP stays behind to buff Long Fangs with Divi. And walah, you have a balance force that is capable of meeting almost any list except flyers. With 3 RP, you can mix and match any powers you want. So far, the most useful for me has been Biomancy and Tempestas for the two forward attacking rune priests. And hopefully, either the Rhino or the Razorback will get Outflank via Cunning of the Wolf detachment rules. And it is awesome! I'm beginning to see its value recently as it enabled me to get closer to many units mid game, even backstabing one or two tanks with a well placed melta in the arse. Oh yeah, I also throw in a Lone Wolf for fluff measure. Mainly as a Distraction Carnifex, I don't really rely on him to kill lots, but for 80 points, you get a model with termie armour, TH, Stormshield and melta bombs. Hasn't really been useful so far, but he did tarpit a horde of Grey Knight Terminators for 5 rounds of combat once for me before dying. Would have won if not for the damn Invisibility spell. Hope this inspires you to try out. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/300777-losing-love-for-my-wolves/page/2/#findComment-3897295 Share on other sites
Ulrik_Ironfist
I'm getting 2 drop pods, to round out my vehicle compliment. I seem to favour the drop pod assault these days, and I'm going to call my wolves complete for now. The Only things I'm really wanting to add are a couple of imperial knights, so I have some superheavy support shenanigans. That and we're starting to see more and more superheavies on the table.
