1500pt tournament Batrep

Well I went to a 1500 pt tourney with my knights not knowing how well I would perform with them. So 18 people showed up with a variety of armies.

All the tables had 12 pieces of terrain, almost half were line of sight blocking as the game should have to keep Xenos shooting armies from going too rampant. All missions were two simulataneous(one maelstrom and eternal war) at the same time both worth equal points and you won by margin of victory. Winning each individual mission by more than 7+ points got you 10 pts for each mission plus a bonus point each round for a total of 63 points.

My list was:

2 ML 3 libbies with staves

1 strike squad with a hammer, psycannon, and a halberd on 5 guys

A terminator squad with 4 halberds, a hammer and psycannon

2 DK with sword, incinerator and Gatling psilencer

2 DK with sword, incinerator and Heavy Psycannon

This was possible by using two NSF detachments for awesomeness(really, you should take these a lot).

My first game was against the only other GK player there. My first experience against GK in a tourney did not go well. But this time it did go well.

He ran a Grandmaster, a ML 3 Libby, a strike squad, a paladin squad, a raven, a DK and a land raider crusader.

The mission was a combination of the relic for one missin and also the maelstrom mission where you start at 6 cards and decrease by 1 for every game turn passed. Hammer and anvil deployment.

I let him go first. I deployed only the 4 DKs on the table. Put the ss and Libby/term blob in deepstrike reserve.

First turn he planned to deep strike his DK next to mine, but It scarred 10" off the board and it died because it. At this point I thought, "well that's a game changer for me".

Basically then I just grabbed the relic with a DK moved it away as he shot at it with crusader. Then my Terms deepstriked behind his raider to take some pot shots at it. Once my ss came in, I passed the relic to them and it went on the kill the raider. His paladins had since gotten out and he was trying to shoot down my DK's with a psilencer and psycannon. Idk why. But then my DK with a single wound went one to kill the raider and the raven that had come on to the board and dropped down and delivered his ss to attack my terms, which eventually won combat but I lost a couple terms and a Libby. He eventually decided to shoot at my ss with the relic to no avail. Every time his pally+GM blob would move up. I'd move all my DK's to make sure they were 18" away as very slowly whittled them down because he made so many fnp saves. But i pretty much had it in the bag by end of turn 3. So I got max 20 pts but I didn't kill his GM so I didn't get the bonus.

2nd game was against tau, against a really good player from my area(actually the best tau player in my area).

His list was a commander with all the bells and whistles, 2 squads of 10 kroot, 2 sqauds of 6 firewarriors, one burst tide and one ion tide, 6 broadsides, one set with 5 marker drones and an ethereal. One set of broadsides with the drones were with the commander in a bunker and the other other broadsides were in another bunker with the ethereal. Oh he also had a skyray.

The mission was Dawn of war deployment, kill points and tactical escalation(where you start at one card and go up each turn).

I was thinking, "yay kill points is a good match up for me against tau and with him only starting with one card he can't score too much early on before I get in his lines and kill everything. He and I both knew even if one of my DK survived to get to his lines he'd be done for.

So I go first and I shunt up 3 of my DK while hiding one behind cover that didn't shunt. Terms in reserves again and the SS hiding in a corner and they weren't about to come out to play with all that massed shooting.

Well I thought I could weather all his fire since he only had one ap 2 gun, but apparently I can't make 2+ saves on my DK's to save my life! So many ones were rolled and I lost 2 on the first turn. It was so bad that I was disenheartened by this but I wasn't going to go down quietly for I would take as many as them as possible!

But next turn I had the terms deep strike in, only to get intercepted to death, but the Libby and term survived. One of my DK's by the bunker tried to destroy but I rolled 5 ones to hit! And my one hit reroll was a one! 6 1's in a row! The TO had seen all this and was like, "yeah you're on the very low end of statistical probability right now".

He then got out of the bunker with one Broadside and commander unit and shot up the knight by the bunker. And my Other DK had engaged the first Riptide. Who got stuck for a round thankfully due to the ethereals stubborn bubble! Then my last two terms engaged the commander broadside team and held them up. Neither of us failing a single 2+ save thankfully.

Now my last DK had killed the first riptide, taken 2 wounds. But then went on to kill the second riptide, a whole squad of kroot and a broadside team all the while getting shot up by it all! At that point he realized I was going to table him if we had played out the last two turns so he conceded to me.

So far I was 2-0 and against a really good tau player too! Last game is against Eldar/ tau allies. Will post about that soon!

I hope you've enjoyed the bat reps so far!

Glad to see the 4x Dreadknight bug is catching on. I legitimately believe its our only competitive option these days.

Your experience with DK's is pretty typical. AP2 tends to melt them, but they'll otherwise walk through insane amounts of firepower largely unscathed. They really are a strong unit in the meta (fast durable MC with guns and 'Force' AP2 melee weapon), it's just a shame we don't have anything else quite as good by comparison. Tau, Necrons, Eldar, IG etc all get a mix of strong units that do horribly things to subpar armies and lists. We just get the DK and Troop Terminators...and we need Allies to do anything else.

Well I for one think Assassins could help us, one of the guys that went to the same tourney as me ran them along with his sisters army. The callidus did well for him and so did the Culexus for him. I think the callidus would do well for us.

It's also the consensus between me and the other top GK players in my area that Paladins aren't worth their points.

Also, Eldar hornets will wreck us, am 80 point model can take out our 200 point DK in one round of shooting.

3rd game I was on top table against Taudar:

His list was:

Jet seer

3 man windrider squad

2 dire squads in serpents

Wraithknight with wraith cannons

2 individual hornets

Ethereal

Kroot sqaud

Iontide

Skyray

His list wasn't that amazing in my opion that I couldn't beat, sure id have trouble with it but as long as I knew I'd play well I could win. But then he seized on me and screwed me. Outflanking hornets are our worst nightmare in this matchup, I couldn't get to them before they came on and started hurting the DK, I lost one to bad rolls early on and another to the Wraithknight Distortinf another...ugh. And everything he had kept backing away from my DK so I couldn't make the assault on his Tide.

Though I did have my GK term squad come down and take out both dire sqauds with cleansing flame! Probably the highlight of thay. I took out his kroot, ethereal, both dires, one Serpent and one Hornet but I had lost everything else by that point except one DK and two strikes, if he hadn't seized and his hornets had come on earlier or before my Terms, the game would've gone much more in my favor.
